WSOP Tournament of Champions This Weekend 0001

Once again, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and its brand are making news with its upcoming 2005 WSOP Tournament of Champions. This freeroll event is set to bring some of the biggest names in the game under one roof for this exclusive event.

The Tournament of champions will be played at the luxurious Caesar's Palace from November 6th through 8th, with the top finisher earning $1 million (US) and bragging rights for the year. With a total prize pool of $2 million, you can bet that players will come with their "A-game" in hopes of taking the title.

ESPN, the exclusive broadcast partner with WSOP will be covering the event and is excited at the prospect of a spectacular end to the WSOP coverage for the year. "The Tournament of Champions will be a great culmination of our World Series of Poker coverage this year. With its high-stakes action and some of the best known players in the game, we expect this to draw very strong ratings," said ESPN's director of programming, Fred Christianson.

According to vice president of sports and entertainment marketing for Harrah's Entertainment, Jeffery Pollack, Caesar's is the perfect match for the Tournament of Champions. "This is poker's all-star event. Some of the top names in the game will travel from around the globe to Cesar's Palace for a chance at a huge payday and bragging rights."

120 players earned spots in the freeroll, with the whole final table of the 2005 WSOP main event leading the way. The new group of millionaires that includes Australian Joe Hachem and Ireland's Andy Black will have stiff competition from other WSOP champions like 10-time bracelet winners Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan, as well as nine-time winner Phil Hellmuth.

According to senior vice president and general manager of Caesar's Palace, Gary Selesner, this will be an amazing event with dramatic poker action. "Caesar's Palace has a long history of hosting world-class sporting events and this one-of-a-kind tournament will continue this legacy. This promises to be a spectacle no poker fan can afford to miss."

The event is scheduled for telecast on Dec. 24, 2005 from 1-4 p.m. (EST).
