Solid turnouts marked Sunday's action in major poker events across the Internet. In the two largest, Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey came to final table of the PokerStars Sunday Million in third place, then found good fortune to take down the win, and David "Doc Sands" Sands took the lead into the final of the Full Tilt $750,000 Guaranteed and rode through to victory. Here's how the action unfolded:
PokerStars Sunday Million
The PokerStars Sunday Million drew its biggest field in quite a while with 8,001 entrants, creating a total prize pool of $1,600,200. Notable finishers included Christian "charder30" Harder in 48th ($2,560.32), Owen "ocrowe" Crowe in 52nd ($2,560.32), and Brett "gank" Jungblut in 79th ($2,240.28). The chip counts to start the final table were the following:
svansa - 19,352,418
fratzl - 17,516,137
Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey - 12,725,996
PureProfitFo - 11,800,471
1bobbyL - 6,220,333
ankolo - 4,635,660
NewsKoooL - 3,712,744
Terkel1 - 2,165,369
omba - 1,880,872
The first to be sent home from the final table was omba at the 125,000/250,000/25,000 level. Under the gun, omba shoved in his last 1,760,872 with A?J? and found action from NewsKoooL who held A?Q?. The board ran out 5?K?9?10?5? and omba was out in ninth place for $11,201.40. PureProfitFo bit the dust next after a raise to 650,000 from early position. In the small blind, svansa reraised to 1,750,000 and PureProfitFo shoved for 8,965,471 with J?J?; svansa called, tabling A?K?. The race situation ended in svansa's favor as the board came K?2?2?9?9?. PureProfitFo earned $18,402.30 for the eighth-place showing.
At 150,000/300,000/30,000, ankolo fell. Fratzl opened to 1,200,000 from early position and ankolo shipped it all in for 4,720,660 from the big blind. A quick call from fratzl revealed his K?Q? to be racing against ankolo's J?J?. A queen on the turn would seal ankolo's fate as the seventh-place finisher for $28,003.50. 1bobbyL was next to be sent to the rail. From the small blind, Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey raised to 740,000 and 1bobbyL moved all in from the big blind for 8,450,666. Turmezey called with A?Q? and caught 1bobbyL making a move with 10?5?. The board rolled out Q?6?5?7?4? and 1bobbyL was eliminated in sixth for $40,805.10.
The 200,000/400,000/40,000 level saw the last of Terkel1 at the final table. Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey raised to 2,800,000 from the small blind and Terkel1 went all in for 6,151,476 with A?6?. Turmezey called with K?7? and saw the board run out K?7?4?2?3?. Terkel1 took home $56,807.10 for fifth place. A long four-handed battle ended with svansa finishing in fourth. The blinds and antes were 300,000/600,000/30,000. Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey raised to 1,450,000 from the small blind and svansa reraised to 4,200,000 in the blind. Twirlpro called and saw the flop bring 7?9?A? before betting enough to set svansa all in. A quick call from svansa, holding A?6? for top pair, meant that Turmezey's 8?7? trailed. However, the turn came the 10? to keep Turmezey's draws alibe, and the 5? river game him the winning flush. Svansa took home $72,809.10. NewsKoooL was Turmezey's next victim. Again from the small blind, Turmezey raised and set his opponent all in. NewsKoooL called all in for 8,570,492 with A?5? and led twirlpro's K?6?. The board came 8?4?J?Q?9? as Turmezey again pulled out a runner-runner flush for the win. NewsKoooL's third-place finish paid $89,611.20.
Heads-up play began with these chip counts:
Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey - 37,782,346
fratzl - 42,224,654
Peter Turmezey took control of the battle and the match ended at the 500,000/1,000,000/100,000 level. Fratzl called the big blind and twirlpro raised to 4,000,000. After a short deliberation, fratzl shoved for just over 20,000,000 and Turmezey called, turning up K?K?. Fratzl's A?Q? needed help and some arrived on the 2?Q?J? flop. The turn and river, though, came 5?K? and fratzl went to the rail as runner-up for $132,176.52. The winner of the PokerStars Sunday Million, collecting $196,024.50, was Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey.
