ANZPT Perth Day 2: Didier Guerin Leads as Money Bubble Looms

On Day 2 of the PokerStars.net Australia and New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT), the final 136 players of a 310-player field returned to battle. It took seven levels of play, but when the field was reduced to 40, Didier Guerin was leading the pack with a healthy stack of 304,000.

Guerin thrived early on when he got all in preflop for 176,000 with QxQx and got two callers who both held AxKx. One of those players held A?K?, so the Jx7x8x flop with two diamonds made for a good sweat; however, the Ax on the turn put a dagger through Guerins heart. Fortunately for him, his pain was quickly diminished when a Qx spiked on the river for the two outer and the win, chipping him up to 280,000.

Not everyone was as fortunate as the chip leader. Leo Boxell, Josh Barrett, Tony Tartaglia, Kristina Griffith and Aleks Lackovic were just a few of the players who fell on Day 2.

Boxell was fresh of a win in a side event, which finished up just a few hours prior to the start of Day 2, but he was working with a short stack in the Main Event. His demise came when he opened from early position for 6,000 and was met with a three-bet to 15,000 by Daniel Loobas. Boxell made the call and then check-called off his remaining stack on the 6?J?9? flop. Loobas rolled over A?A?, which was far ahead of Boxells 5?5?. Neither the K? turn nor 7? river changed a thing and the Australian Poker Hall of Famer was sent to the rail.

Heres a look at the top ten chip counts at the end of Day 2:

Nancy Todd Poker Palace Coming to Arkansas?

Arkansas poker players will have more than one reason to hit the voting booths this November as The Nancy Todd Poker Palace announced that its submission for an amendment was approved by the Attorney General this week. If the amendment passes, Todd plans to create the largest poker palace in the world, in Pulaski County, Arkansas.

The amendment would also allow for four local-based land casino entertainment venues in Crittenden, Miller, and Franklin Counties. The casinos created will pay a 12.5 percent tax, which will be split to various programs in Arkansas including public schools and veterans affairs. Todd has been a big advocate for gaming outside Las Vegas and Atlantic City and has helped add gaming to many venues. In addition to this, Todd has a World Poker Tour Ladies Event Championship under her belt from May 2008.
