Global Poker Index: Gruissem and Kenney Climb in POY Race and Top 300
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods as calculated by the USA Today Global Poker Index point system.

After finishing 20th in the Master Classics of Poker (MCOP) Main Event, a tournament he won in 2012, Ole Schemion climbed past Mike Watson into the second spot in the GPI Player of the Year race. The German now has over $1.35 million in live tournament earnings in 2013, and over $3.5 million in career live tournament earnings.
Fellow German Philipp Gruissem won the World Poker Tour Alpha8 event in St. Kitts, earning back-to-back victories worth over $1 million each. Gruissem��s now has an astounding $4.6 million in earnings in 2013, and sits at No. 5 in the POY race.
Joining this eclectic group of players in the top 10 are Americans Bryn Kenney and Scott Seiver. Kenney comes in at No. 5 after finishing 12th in the MCOP Main Event and winning the �10,000 MCOP High Roller, Seiver is at No. 8 with a cash in St. Kitts.
Exiting the top 10 is Jason Mercier, who has over $1.8 million in tournament earnings in 2013.

Daniel Negreanu remains the leader in both the GPI POY race and the Top 300. Due to their aforementioned recent successes, Gruissem moves to No. 2 and Kenney is up to No. 6 in the Top 300.
The only other player to move up in the top 10 is Shannon Shorr. Shorr placed eighth in a side event at the MCOP, and currently ranks fifth.

Andrew Chen, Jason Lavallee and Hiren ��Sunny�� Patel rejoined the top 300, with Patel squeaking in right at No. 300. Patel has��t cashed in an event since August, while Lavallee won the EPT London High Roller and Chen finished fifth in the MCOP Main Event.

Dutchman Govert Metaal made the biggest jump this week, climbing 74 spots No. 149 thanks to a fourth-place finish in the 2013 Scheveningen Series of Poker Main Event, a 30th-place finish in an MCOP side event, and a runner-up finish in the MCOP High Roller. Mike ��Timex�� McDonald also rocketed up the ranks. The Canadian pro finished third in the WPT Alpha8 super high roller in St. Kitts, moving 38 spots to No. 67.
World Series of Poker Main Event champion Ryan Riess moved up 31 places to No. 200. Daniel Weinman also received a nice boost. Weinman, who told PokerNews at the WSOP Europe that he thinks he��s the best open-face Chinese poker player in the world, made two deep runs in Enghien-les-Bains, and climbed 44 places to No. 138.

Brock Parker plummeted over 100 spots and is now in danger of falling out of the top 300 at No. 291. Parker only has seven cashes in 2013, and only $187,334 in earnings.
