World Poker Tour Caribbean Day 4: Dunst Leads Final Table; Rettenmaier Seeks 3rd Title
It was a short and sweet Day 4 in the World Poker Tour Caribbean, which saw the final 11 players of a 191-player field return to play down to the final table of six. That meant five players needed to hit the rail, and it took just two levels for that to happen. Marvin Rettenmaier remains in contention for his third WPT title, but the big story was the emergence of Tony Dunst as the final table chip leader. As you know, Dunst is a member of the WPT family as the host of The Raw Deal.
Heres a look at the WPT Caribbean final table:
Seat | Player | Count |
---|---|---|
1 | Tony Dunst | 1,418,000 (118 bb) |
2 | Giacomo Fundaro | 458,000 (38 bb) |
3 | Zoltan Purak | 324,000 (27 bb) |
4 | Marvin Rettenmaier | 1,046,000 (87 bb) |
5 | Robbie Bakker | 1,069,000 (89 bb) |
6 | Severin Schleser | 1,416,000 (118 bb) |
According to the WPT live blog, the day kicked off in Level 20 with the blinds at 5,000/10,000/1,000, and it didnt take long for the first elimination to occur. It happened when Dunst opened for 21,000 from the cutoff and Thomas Laviano defended from the big blind, which brought about a flop of A?9?7?. Laviano check-called a bet of 25,000 and then checked the K? turn. Dunst bet 70,000, Laviano moved all in, and Dunst snap-called.
Dunst: 9?9?
Laviano: A?3?
Laviano was drawing dead, and after the K? was run out on the river for good measure, he took his leave in 11th place for $10,500.
From there, Ebony Kenney (10th - $10,500), James Joyner (9th - $14,300), and Bobby Oboodi (8th - $19,200) all hit the rail. Oboodi, who won the Season X WPT Borgata Poker Open, fell on Hand #22 of the unofficial final table when, in Level 21 (6,000/12,000/2,000), he raised to 25,000 from the cutoff and Robert Bakker three-bet to 61,000 from the small blind. Oboodi responded by moving all in for 182,000 and Bakker made the call.
Oboodi: Q?Q?
Bakker: A?J?
Oboodi got it in good, but he had to sweat it as the J?8?4? flop gave Bakker a pair of jacks. The 10? turn was of no consequence, but the J? was as Bakker spiked trips. Oboodi was denied a second WPT title and had to settled for eighth place and a $19,200 consolation prize.
Two hands later, Jean-Nicolas Fortin moved all in from early position for his last 173,000 and Dunst called from the small blind. Fortin tabled the A?7?, but unfortunately for him it was no good as Dunst rolled over the A?10?. The board ran out J?3?2?10?5? and Fortin was sent home in seventh place as the TV bubble boy.
The final six players will return at 10:00 a.m. local time (9:00 a.m. ET / 6:00 a.m. PT) to play down to a winner. Of course PokerNews will bring you a recap of the action upon completion of play.
