Celebrity Cash Kings: Tony G Proves He Is Still the Champion, Donates 109,000 to Charity
The cards were up in the air until the early hours of Tuesday, August 16, at the King's Casino, in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, where the first day of the 2016 Celebrity Cash King's Summer Edition saw Lithuania's representative at the European Parliament Antanas "Tony G" Guoga put on his legendary poker hat to join the most exclusive cash game on the continent.
Away from the felt since 2014, the first day of Tony G's poker comeback made immediately clear to everyone that the two years he spent at the European Parliament in Brussels did not change his style of play nor his irreverent way to deal with the other players at the table.
"Today we can see what poker is all about," Tony G's long-time friend and industry expert Warren Lush told PokerNews. "The chatter, the banter, the games: I wish everyone could see what is happening at King's this week because this is what poker used to be and what poker should always be. This is what makes poker be a lot more than a card game and made thousands of people, including myself, fall in love with it."
The first of four days of hyper-exclusive cash game action kicked off as soon as Rob Yong's private jet touched the ground only minutes away from Rozvadov to allow Sam Trickett, Roberto Romanello, and the owner of the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham to join a spectacular field that included also poker wunderkind Fedor Holz, 2016 November Nine Vojtech Ruzicka, Igor Kurganov, and King's Casino owner Leon Tsoukernik.
The field of poker stars and businesspeople put together by Tsoukernik for this very special occasion started the four-day cash game battle with a no limit hold'em 50 / 100 button attack game that required everyone pony up a minimum of 10,000 to enter.
By 1:30, when the dealers sent them to rest for the night in preparation for another challenging day that includes a 50 / 100 pot-limit Omaha session followed by another 50 / 100 hold'em game, it was Tony G to leave as one of the evening's heroes and biggest winners, as he was able to put together winnings for 109,000.
I thought I would be a bit rusty but the juices flowed and I sent them on their bikes.
"Last night, I sat down and played poker for the first time in a very long time and I was surprised to see that I am still qualified and the champion," Tony G shared on Tuesday morning.
To make his comeback and the successful session at the table even more special, poker's most famous bad boy decided to celebrate the evening by donating the entire amount of his winnings to Vilnius University and two of Lithuania's top charity organizations: B?d? Turgus and Maisto Bankas through his own A. Guoga foundation. "I thought I would be a bit rusty but the juices flowed and I sent them on their bikes. I ended up winning over 100,000 - my charity foundation is very happy," he concluded.
