The penultimate day of the 888poker LIVE Barcelona 888 Main Event has come to a close here at Casino Barcelona. The day began with 172 players and by the end of the night only 11 remained.

Spain's Josep Valls finished the night with the chip lead, bagging an impressive 4,590,000 chips worth 77 big blinds going into the final day. Valls soared to the top of the counts late in the night after scoring a pivotal double knockout on the feature table.

Valls is most closely followed by Gonzalo Mencia (4,525,000) and Jose Criado (3,760,000). The top three players hold a massive lead over the rest of the field, with Criado having at least double the chips of all other players left in the field.

Among the notables who exercised their option to join the field at the end of late registration was Maria Lampropulos, who just a few days ago won the 888poker LIVE 2,000 High Roller for 22,000. Lampropulos did not have the same luck in this event and would ultimately bust before the money.

Other notables to play Day 2 but fall before the money include 888poker ambassadors Alexandre Mantovani and Ian Simpson along with start of day chip leader Gabriel Podovei. Day 1d chip leader Adam Martinsson was also eliminated before making the money. The chip leaders from the other two opening flights had a bit more success. Day 1a chip leader Viktor Moskalenko finished 23rd for 3,000 while Day 1c chip leader Jeremy Atlan hit the rail in 15th for 3,900.

Vivian Saliba
Vivian Saliba

888poker ambassadors Lucia Navarro and Vivian Saliba both made the money but were sent to the rail before the end of the night. Navarro was short-stacked after the bubble had burst and was knocked out after failing to improve with pocket sixes against Criado's pocket jacks in a preflop confrontation, earning a min-cash of 2,350 in the process. Saliba made it a a few pay jumps further before losing a big preflop flip to James Hawkins who turned quad fives to eliminate the last 888poker ambassador left standing. Saliba received 2,600 for her 37th place finish in the event.

All remaining players are guaranteed at least 4,500, with a pay jump occurring after two more eliminations at which point the remaining players will all have made the final table. All eyes are on the top prize of 75,000 and the 888poker LIVE trophy.

In a preflop confrontation Kristian Larsson was all in for about 300,000 from early position and up against a player in the big blind who covered him.

Kristian Larsson: A?Q? All in
Opponent: A?K?

Larsson was in rough shape with a dominated ace and was drawing to just two outs after the K?Q?4? flop. The 6? turn was a brick but the Q? river gave Larsson trip queens to score the double up and extend his tournament life.

Criado Clashes with Belli in Five-Bet Pot

Level 19 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Jose Criado opened from the button, a player on the button called and Carlo Belli three-bet to 125,000 from the big blind. Criado put in a four-bet to 300,000 and the player on the button folded. Belli five-bet shoved for roughly 1,000,000 and Criado called with a covering stack to put Belli at risk.

Carlo Belli: A?9? All in
Jose Criado: A?K?

Belli had picked the wrong time to make a move and was a huge underdog against Criado's ace-king. Belli found no help on the A?3?J?J?7? runout and made his exit from the tournament area while Criado dragged in a massive pot to take the chip lead.

A player limped in from middle position, Jose Criado raised from the hijack and Lucia Navarro shoved for about 130,000 from the big blind. The limper got out of the way while Criado called with a covering stack to put Navarro at risk.

Criado Wins Massive Bubble Flip

Level 16 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Jose Criado opened from early position, a player from middle position called and a player in the cutoff three-bet to 75,000. Criado four-bet shoved, covering both players. The middle position player got out of the way while the cutoff, who had about 300,000 behind, went deep into the tank.

Multiple time extensions were used before the cutoff flicked in the call to put himself at risk with a colossal pot on the line.

Cutoff: A?K? All in
Jose Criado: Q?Q?

It was a classic preflop race that Criado got the best of on the J?8?9? flop. His overpair held up when the rest of the board ran out 5?7? and he took down a gargantuan pot while his opponent was sent to the rail three spots shy of making the money.

Alexandre Mantovani
Alexandre Mantovani

Alexandre Mantovani opened to 22,000 from middle position, leaving just a single 500 chip behind. Luis Zamora then raised to 50,000 from the button, folding out all other players except Mantovani, who flicked in his last chip to put himself at risk.

Alexandre Mantovani: A?8? All in
Luis Zamora: K?K?

Zamora pulled way ahead with top set on the K?7?9? flop leaving Mantovani needing running cards to preserve his tournament life. The 2? turn left Mantovani drawing dead and after the 4? river he made his exit from the tournament area while Zamora claimed the last of his chips.
