You're Really Playing That?

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

"Geez, you're playing some shit aren't you?" said Ken Demlakian at the end of the following hand against David Allan.

Allan opened the button to 48,000 and Demlakian called. Allan then check-called a bet of 45,000 on the {4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop. Both players checked the {7-Diamonds} turn and the {4-Hearts} river and Allan showed {q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} at showdown. This is when Demlakian said Allan was playing some crap. Allan could only respond by saying, "It's not that bad," as he raked in a few chips.

"Right, he's raising to 48,000 with that crap," Demlakian pondered to nobody in particular.

Demlakian Wins Some Back

Ken Demlakian has just managed to win a few chips back, courtesy of the following hand. Allan was on the button and opened it up to 48,000. Demlakian three-bet to 76,000 and Allan made the call.

Both players checked the {9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop and the Allan instantly folded when Demlakian led for 130,000 on the {2-Spades} turn.

Allan Claims an Early Lead

David Allan was on the button when he opened it up with a raise to 48,000. Ken Demlakian called in the big blind and a {6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop was spread on the felt. Demlakian checked and Allan bet 52,000. Demlakian snap-called and an {a-Spades} was slapped on the turn.

This time Allan would bet 85,000 when Demlakian checked and Demlakian would again call. This time when Demlakian checked the {4-Clubs} river, Allan would bet a large 260,000. Demlakian folded fairly quickly and Allan scopped up the nice pot.

Jordan Westmorland Eliminated in 3rd Place (NZD$41,200)

Jordan Westmorland - 3rd Place
Jordan Westmorland - 3rd Place

It took a little while, but we have now lost another player. It started when the play was folded to Jordan Westmorland in the small blind. He raised it up to 50,000 and Ken Demlakian called from the big blind.

On the {3-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop, Westmorland checked and then raised to 175,000 after Demlakian bet 75,000. Demlakian made the call and a {7-Hearts} was dealt on the turn. This time Westmorland jammed for 388,000 and Demlakian didn't take long before he made the call, putting Westmorland at risk.

Westmorland: {8-Spades}{6-Spades}
Demlakian: {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Westmorland had draws coming out of his ears, but Demlakian was in front with his pair. The {q-Clubs} on the river was not what Westmorland was looking for and he was eliminated in third place - worth NZD$41,200.

Allan Dominating the Blind Battles

Ken Demlakian raised the small blind to 40,000 and again David Allan defended his big blind with a call to see a flop of {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Demlakian led out for 65,000 and Allan called as the {8-Spades} hit the turn.

Demlakian checked and Allan threw 75,000 into the middle. Demlakian called and we were off to the river where the {6-Clubs} completed the board. Demlakian and this time Allan checked behind.

Demlakian showed {7-Spades}{4-Spades} for a busted flush draw as Allans lowly {3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of threes was enough to take it down.

Allan is gaining the advantage, and plenty of chips, playing in position in these blind battles with Demlakian, with Allan now up to 1.16 million with Demlakian slipping back to 920,000.

Three Pair for Ken

Jordan Westmorland started things off with a raise to 45,000 from the small blind. Ken Demlakian called in the big blind as the two took a flop of {9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Westmorland tossed out 45,000 and Demlakian called as the {a-Clubs} hit the turn.

Westmorland released a second barrel worth 85,000 and Demlakian quickly called it as the {a-Spades} landed on the river. Westmorland checked and Demlakian quickly checked behind.

Jack, said Westmorland as Demlakian opened {k-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for three pair and more than enough to win the pot.
