Final Five Tables

We're down to our final five tables with 40 players left in today's tournament. Plenty of big names players are still in contention with Tony G, Jason Gray, Michael Guzzardi, Gary Benson, Sam Khouiss, Van Marcus, Mel Judah, and Billy "The Croc" Argyros all still alive in the field as Event #3 of the Aussie Millions is set to have another quality final table lineup.

Tony G Shows a Scooper

Tony G
Tony G
Mick Stanton, Tony G, and two other players were in the pot preflop for 500 chips each. That number was trimmed down to three after a flop of {Q-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}, with Tony calling a bet from one of his opponents and Stanton folding. The turn was the {8-Hearts}. The flop aggressor led out a second time, but Tony didn't meekly call -- he raised. His opponent called to a river of {8-Clubs}, then check-called one last bet. Tony showed down {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} for two pair, queens and eights, and the nut low. That was enough to scoop the pot.

Tony G's chip count stands at approximately 14,000.

No Split for Demetriou

We caught the hand at showdown with the board reading {9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades}. Harry Demetriou tabled {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for a jack-high straight but his opponent bettered that with {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Clubs} for a queen-high straight.

The dealer then started to split the pot but Demetriou was quick to point out, "No, he gets it all!"

Demetriou is down to his last 2,600.

Annette Obrestad != Vinnie Vinh

It's all over for Annette Obrestad's chip stack. Obrestad never showed up. All of her chips have finally been distributed to the other players in the tournament, well short of the money. If she was ever "in" this tournament, she's certainly out now.

Quads Only Takes Half for Dorazio

Justin Dorazio
Justin Dorazio
PokerNews' reporter Justin Dorazio was quick to grab a note pad and jot down the following hand for us after making quads on the river.

The board was {4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Dorazio had led the betting the whole way holding {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} only for Gary Benson to make the call with {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-?}{8-?} for a low hand and chop the pot.

The beauty of a split game -- you can make quads and only win half the pot!

Who Says Unimproved Sets Never Win?

On a straighting, flushing, low-card board, Tony G made a set hold up for a scoop. His {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} flopped bottom set against one player on a flop of {A-Hearts} {7-Spades} {Q-Hearts}. Tony had to hang on when the board ran out {3-Hearts} {4-Spades}, forcing him to check down the river. It didn't matter; he got the whole pot.

Tony's chip count is now up to 10,200.

Annette Update

For those wondering why Annette Obrestad's chip count has drifted so meekly today, well, the answer is that although she pre-registered for today's event, she actually never showed up.

Her stack has been blinded off all day and she's now got 275 chips left on the button. One more orbit and it's all over.

Mountt Makes Ugly Cards Look Great

Danny Mountt was sitting in the big blind and watched as Sam Khouiss raised one limper and then was three-bet by Trung Tran from the button. Mountt called both raises and took a three-handed flop of {5-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} with Khouiss and Tran. Action checked to Tran, who fired out the first bet. Mountt check-raised, folding Khouiss.

Tran called to see a turn of {9-Clubs}. He called one bet there, bringing the two players to the river {8-Diamonds}. Mountt fired out one more time and Tran called.

Mountt: {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {4-Spades}
Tran: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}

It was a chopped pot. Tran collected the low with 6-5-3-2-A, while Mountt grabbed the high with a six-high straight.

Superman Beat Me?

On a board of {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{J-Spades}{9-Diamonds} Sam Khouiss called the last of Danny Mountt's 450-chip bet and both players revealed their holdings.

"Two pair," said Mountt and tabled {5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

"Set of fives," replied Khouiss with his {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

"No ten!" yelled Khouiss, just before the {10-Clubs} fell on the river. "Oh *#@%!" exclaimed Khouiss at the cruel river blow. He's now down to 8,100.

A few minutes later and Khouiss was still steaming and muttering away to himself.

Khouiss: "...drawing dead and wins...unbelievable!"
Mountt: "Did it beat you?"
Khouiss: "No, Superman beat me!"
