Miracle Window Card for Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi's up-and-down day continued moments ago when he doubled up through Kosta Varoxis.

Mizzi got it all in preflop (1.9 million) holding {A-Clubs}{6-Hearts} against Varoxis' pocket kings and spiked the {A-Diamonds} in the window. That was all the help he needed to win the pot, improving to just over four million in chips.

Varoxis dropped to 575,000 in chips after the hand.

Hanging Around

Looks like we spoke too soon. Just when it looked as if the speed of play had slowed down, we were blessed with a double up to tell you about.

Kosta Varoxis is back up over the two million mark, thanks in part to a very lucky river card.

Varoxis got it all in before the flop for his last 990,000 holding {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} against chip leader Tyron Krost's {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Krost held the lead through the turn as the board filled out {9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Hearts}, but Varoxis managed to spike the {Q-Spades} on the river to stay alive.

Krost was left with a still-healthy 5.5 million in chips after the hand.

Back to Small Ball

The last hour of play has been much more eventful than the earlier levels, though our momentarily jolt of extra activity seems to have died down.

We seem to be back to raise, three-bet, fold mode for the time being.

Not-so-average Joe

Joe Hachem, 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion and the face of the Crown Poker Room, just stopped in to sign a few t-shirts for members of the studio audience.

Defining Moment

As defined by Merriam-Webster's online dictionary, the word 'roller-coaster,' when used as an adjective, means:

/ marked by numerous ups and downs <an entertainer's rollerCcoaster career> /

So it's very safe to say that the last thirty minutes have been very roller-coasterish for Sorel Mizzi, who's just given a good portion of what he just won from Kosta Varoxis right back to him.

Varoxis open-shoved all in from under-the-gun for his last 550,000 and Mizzi moved all in over the top in an effort to isolate Varoxis. Both blinds folded and a showdown ensued:

Mizzi: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Varoxis: {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The {Q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop was a great one for Varoxis, as it gave him an open-ended straight draw. The turn -- {10-Spades} -- was even better, as it gave him the outright lead in the hand. The river blanked an inconsequential {4-Hearts} and Varoxis doubled up to 1.25 million in chips.

Mizzi was left with 1.65 million after the hand.

Back in Action

It took very little time for Sorel Mizzi to get back up to 2.15 million in chips, and he did so with a double up through Kosta Varoxis.

Action folded around to Varoxis in the small blind who raised it up to 240,000. Mizzi then moved all in over the top for 1.065 million holding {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and was called by Varoxis who challenged with {A-Clubs}{4-Spades}.

The board then ran out {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{J-Spades}{K-Spades} and Mizzi's queen kicker held strong to win him the pot. Varoxis was left with 650,000 in chips after the hand.
