"Don't Mess With Miss Mary"

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Mary Darnell
Mary Darnell

Mary Darnell was in position in a heads-up pot and called a bet from her opponent a flop of {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

The opponent bet 45,000 on the {8-Diamonds} turn and Darnell announced a raise to 90,000. The opponent called, and then led out again for 115,000 on the river. Darnell took about a minute before announcing "all-in" and throwing in a single 25,000 chip.

Her opponent had about 200,000 behind and contemplated calling off for his tournament life.

"You have a six? Really?" the opponent asked.

Darnell sat still but agreed to show if the opponent folded. He did fold, and Darnell shocked the table when she turned over an apparent bluff with {a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and took down the huge pot.

"It looks like a six over here!" someone on the other side of the table contributed.

The opponent was in awe that Darnell didn't even have a pair, while others at the table respected the move.

"Don't mess with Miss Mary!" warned Edward Mroczkowski.

Sundberg Eliminated by Monroe

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Matthew Sundberg
Matthew Sundberg

Picking up the action on a flop of {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} in a heads-up pot, Day 1b chip leader Matthew Sundberg moved all-in for 133,000 with around the same amount in the pot.

Alexander Monroe when in the tank as he contemplated calling for most of his stack, Eventually, he found the call.

Matthew Sundberg: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Alexander Monroe: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Sundberg was far in front with a pair of tens to the underpair and open-ended straight draw of Monroe, who ultimately got there on the {q-Diamonds} turn before the meaningless {3-Clubs} rolled off on the river to send a frustrated Sundberg to the payout counter.

Chastain Folds Jacks to Dodge Ladies of Zimmerman

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

PokerNews was called to the table as Eric Chastain folded a big hand face-up against Matthew Zimmerman.

On a ten-high flop, Chastain laid down {j-}{j-} for an overpair when facing a bet from Zimmerman, who showed {q-}{q-} to let Chastain know he made the right laydown.

"Can you blog this?! The man from Tennessee keeps making these crazy folds! That's a great fold, sir," said Zimmerman.

Set of Tens for Nguyen; Mroczkowski Folds Aces

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Picking up the action on a flop reading {5-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} in a three-way pot, the small blind moved all-in for about 250,000 and Anh Nguyen in middle position re-jammed behind him for about 300,000. Edward Mroczkowski had a decision to make in late position and eventually folded {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} face-up.

Small Blind: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Anh Nguyen: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Nguyen was far in front with a set but the {8-Spades} on the turn gave the small blind a straight draw to go with his overpair. The river brought the {a-Spades} to ship the massive pot to Nguyen, while Mroczkowski lamented that he would have made the best hand and climbed over one million.

"But that's a good fold," noted tablemate Mary Darnell.

Deja Vu for Petiote as He Doubles Up Studdard

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

In a hand relayed to PokerNews, Lunique Petiote opened to 18,000 and called when Darius Studdard three-bet to 62,000.

The flop came {8-}{6-}{2-Clubs} and Petiote check-called a bet of 52,000 from Studdard. Petiote then led all-in on the {8-Clubs} turn and Harper called off a stack of 90,000 and Studdard called.

Darius Studdard: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Lunique Petiote: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Studdard was far in front with trips but Petiote had outs to a club flush. But the {q-Diamonds} on the river didn't do it for him and he was left with crumbs, only to be eliminated a few hands later.

By his own admission, Petiote played like a "maniac" throughout the tournament, including an eerily similar hand that took place late in Day 1b where he raised all-in on the turn with a turned straight draw and couldn't improve against the trips of Matthew Sundberg, who doubled to take the Day 1b chip lead.

Salgado Gets a Double

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Kelly Salgado was all-in and at risk for around 50,000 against a single opponent.

Kelly Salgado: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Spades}{6-Spades}

The flop came {4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} to keep Salgado ahead with ace-high and give her a flush draw to go with it. The {7-Diamonds} on the turn gave her opponent a straight draw, but the {9-Clubs} bricked out on the river and Salgado stayed alive.

Salgado was happy to fade her opponent's outs and looked eager to further run up her stack.

"I've had a short stack all day. Just give me an easy one!" she said.
