Action Picks Up a Little Bit

Fintan Gavin Stays Active
Fintan Gavin Stays Active
Dren Ukella raised to 72,000 and action folded around to Fintan Gavin in the big blind and he made the call. The flop came {10-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {2-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn fell the {6-Diamonds} and Gavin led out for 75,000 and Ukella looked him up.

The {K-Diamonds} on the river had both players quickly checking. Gavin announced "a nine" as he turned over {Q-?} {9-?}. Ukella mucked and Fintan Gavin took down the pot.

Unusual Three-Way Pot

After such a slow start, imagine our surprise when we encountered a rare three-way pot. It was German Dren Ukella who kicked things off, raising it up UTG and finding two callers in Samuel Chartier and Sebastian Ruthenberg on the button.

On a {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop, Ukella continue bet for 86,000, which was flat-called by Chartier. Ruthenberg stepped out of the way.

A {Q-Clubs} on the turn led to a second bet from Ukella. We couldn't make out the value of the bet, but once Chartier had made yet another smooth call, the pot had inflated to 679,000.

The seemingly blank {2-Spades} on the river led to what the commentary referred to as a "trademark swerve bet from Ukella," who led out for a very diminutive 72,000. Chartier huffed before calling, but could only muck as Ukella revealed a triumphant {K-?}{Q-?}.

We Have a Showdown!

Sebastian Ruthenberg - Current Chip Leader
Sebastian Ruthenberg - Current Chip Leader
After roughly a dozen hands, the players saw their first flop. Action folded around to Sebastian Ruthenberg in the small blind and he completed. Martin Nielsen checked his big blind option and the flop came {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {2-Spades}. Both players checked and the {4-Clubs} hit the turn. Ruthenberg check-called a bet of 45,000 from Nielsen and to the river they went.

When the {9-Clubs} came off on fifth street, Ruthenberg tapped the felt yet again. Nielsen confidently bet 75,000 and Ruthenberg made a routine call. The players showed:

Nielsen: {K-?} {4-?}
Ruthenberg: {K-?} {9-?}

Both had kings up, but the German had the winner. Ruthenberg took over the chip lead on the hand and climbed to just shy of 1,280,000 chips. Nielsen sits in second place in the chip counts, still with over one million.

If I Show You Mine, Will You Show Me Yours?

Jason Mercier opened for 73,000 from the cutoff and Fintan Gavin put in a reraise to 200,000 from the big blind, about half of Mercier's remaining stack. Looking positively agonized, Mercier tanked for several minutes over his decision, asking his opponent a question usually reserved for a grammar school playground.

"If I show you mine, will you show me yours?"

Mercier folded his {A-Diamonds} {8-Spades} face-up and Gavin made good on his promise, showing the {6-Hearts} {10-Clubs} for a complete bluff.

Mercier looked ill as Gavin raked in the pot.

Cagey Start

There's been very little action witnessed during these opening few hands, and we've yet to see a flop. The likes of Dren Ukella and Davidi Kitai, the latter UTG, raised it up preflop, but both went through uncontested. With Daniele Mazzia short, however, it's only a matter of time before he starts pushing all in, so perhaps if he runs into a hand, we'll see an early showdown.

No Sign of a Start

As has been the trend this week, the official starting time (4pm today) has been slightly misleading with play usually kicking off around 30 minutes later. Today in particular, it appears as though the razzmatazz of the cameras and the hustle and bustle of the final day have led to another late start. The players are in the vicinity, but yet to take their seats. We'll let you know as soon as they do.
