EPT Monte Carlo: Charlie Carrel Grows Up

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Charlie Carrel
Charlie Carrel

For a “former professional poker player” (and former garish dresser), Charlie Carrel has been putting on a stellar display so far at EPT Monte Carlo, final tabling three high rollers in a row for more than half a million euros.

But if it’s not poker, what does Carrel now consider his job? And what does he make of the current high roller world he’s still a crusher in? We caught up with him during his epic Monaco run to find out.

Kisacikoglu Sent to Reenter

Level 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Orpen Kisacikoglu
Orpen Kisacikoglu

Orpen Kisacikoglu shoved from the button for 41,000 and was called by Bryn Kenney in the small blind with the slightly bigger stack.

Orpen Kisacikoglu: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Bryn Kenney: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for Kenney to hold with the pocket pair of queens to eliminate Kisacikoglu for now.

Peters Gets the Folds

Level 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Christoph Vogelsang - David Peters
Christoph Vogelsang - David Peters

Christoph Vogelsang raised to 10,000 from the hijack and was called by David Peters in the cutoff and Bryn Kenney in the big blind.

They all checked through the {2-Spades}{k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop and the {3-Diamonds} on the turn to the {q-Clubs} on the river. Kenney checked quickly and Vogelsang bet 16,000. Peters took some time to consider his options and then decided to raise to 52,000. Vogelsang tanked, using a time bank card, and then opted to fold.

Haxton Finishes the Job

Level 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ivan Leow
Ivan Leow

After a couple of preflop raises, Isaac Haxton on the button and Ivan Leow in the small blind got all of their chips in the middle. It was Leow at risk for around 120,000 just moments after folding the best hand to Haxton.

Isaac Haxton: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Ivan Leow: {q-Spades}{9-Spades}

The flop came {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts} which provided no help to Leow. The turn was the {6-Clubs} and the river brought the {10-Spades}. Despite Leow making a straight, Haxton made a full house and sent Leow to the re-entry desk.

Haxton Makes Leow Fold the Best Hand

Level 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Picking up the action on the river with a completed board of {a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} spread across the table, Isaac Haxton and Ivan Leow were heads-up in the blinds.

It appeared the action was checked to the river and Haxton finally bet 4,000. Leow raised to 15,000 and Haxton announced all in. Leow thought for a minute before finally making a tough laydown.

Leow flashed the {2-Clubs} before his cards hit the muck.

"Show me," Leow pleaded to Haxton.

"You can look if you want," Haxton replied as he slid his cards to Leow.

Leow turned over {a-}{4-} for two pair and the table erupted in laughter after noticing Leow folded the best hand.

Leong Gets the Best of Greenwood

Level 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Sam Greenwood raised to 10,000 on the button and Chan Wai Leong defended from the big blind. The flop came {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Leong checked to Greenwood who bet 18,000. Leong check-raised to 55,000 and Greenwood called.

The turn brought the {5-Spades} and both players checked to the {j-Diamonds} on the river. Leong shipped all in for around 140,000 and Greenwood made a quick fold, flashing the {q-Hearts}.

"I was going to do that," Greenwood said.
