Shimelfarb Fires Twice

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Gennady Shimelfarb opened to 50,000 from the hijack and received a call from James Lawrence, defending his big blind. The two saw a flop of {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Lawrence checked to Shimelfarb, who made a continuation-bet for 50,000. Lawrence peeled.

The turn was {q-Hearts} and Lawrence checked again. Shimelfarb slid out a stack of T5,000 chips well over 20-tall, appearing to be around 140,000. Lawrence thought for a few moments and then sent his cards to the muck.

Bill Perpich

Bill Perpich opened to 35,000 from under the gun and received calls from Rob Wazwaz, who was on the button, and Vic Peppe in the small blind. James Lawrence then announced a three-bet all in, putting all remaining players to decisions for their stacks.

Perpich went into the tank for a bit before announcing a call, prompting immediate folds from Wazwaz and Peppe.

Bill Perpich: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
James Lawrence: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Perpich was unable to find help as the board ran out {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}, leaving him dry on chips as he wished the remaining players at his table good luck with mutual exchanges of wishing one another a good game.

Zeph Baer shoved his last 10 or so big blinds all in from the cutoff and received action from Gennady Shimelfarb.

Zeph Baer: {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Gennady Shimelfarb: {a-}{a-}

The flop came {x-Diamonds}{x-Diamonds}{x-} to give Baer a glimmer of hope in a flush draw. The turn fell {2-} to give him additional outs, however the river {10-} was unable to get him there to result in him taking 13th place at the expense of Shimelfarb, whose two recent knockouts have put launched his stack up to

Lawrence Correctly Makes a Hero Fold

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

There was at least 200,000 in the middle on the river with a board of {j-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{k-Spades}{q-Clubs} with heads-up action between Justin Thurlow in the big blind and James Lawrence, who was in the hijack.

Thurlow had fired out 50,000 and Lawrence was in the tank. After some time, he folded {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} face-up.

"Wow! Nice fold, Jimmy!" said Thurlow as the dealer began to send the pot his way. "I'll show." The dealer looked up to him as she shipped him the pot and he reaffirmed he would show as he stood up with cards still in hand.

He then tabled {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for Broadway and proceeded to rake in the pot, slamming his fist on the felt again emphatically as he gave Lawrence another genuine compliment on how great of a fold he had made.

Aaron Curti Eliminated in 15th Place; Scotter Clark Eliminated in 14th Place ($4,741)

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Aaron Curti
Aaron Curti

James Lawrence opened to 40,000 from the cutoff and was called by Bob Van Syckle, who was on the button. Aaron Curti was in the big blind and reraised all in for 80,000, receiving calls from Lawrence and Van Syckle to give him an opportunity to triple up with any future action going into a side pot between Lawrence and Van Syckle.

The flop came {4-Hearts}{9-Spades}{j-Hearts} and Lawrence checked. Van Syckle slid out a stack of chips to bet and Lawrence quickly folded to leave just two players remaining.

Aaron Curti: {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Bob Van Syckle: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Van Syckle's flopped pair of tens was ahead of Curti's ace-high and nothing changed as the turn {k-Spades} and river {3-Diamonds} completed the runout to earn Van Syckle the pot as Curti was eliminated from the tournament.

Moments later, Scotter Clark shoved all in from the cutoff and was called by Gennady Shimelfarb.

Scotter Clark: {9-}{9-}
Gennady Shimelfarb: {j-}{j-}

Clark was unable to hit a nine as the board ran out clean for Shimelfarb, resulting in the 2015 Fall Poker Classic Main Event Champion taking 14th place in the tournament.

Thurlow Nearing Seven Figures

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Nghia Le opened to 36,000 from the cutoff and received calls from Justin Thurlow, who was on the button, and James Lawrence who defended his big blind. Action went three ways to the flop {9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{a-Clubs} and Lawrence checked. Le made a continuation-bet of 45,000 and got a call from Thurlow and a fold from Lawrence.

With action heads up, the turn came {5-Hearts} and both players checked. The river came {10-Clubs} and Le checked to Thurlow, who slid out a stack of T5,000 chips with one hand while putting out another one of them next to it for a bet of 105,000. Le went into the tank for over a minute and then called.

Thurlow showed {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a rivered flush after having flopped a gutshot five-high straight flush draw to earn the pot, bringing him to around 970,000 in chips with the end of Level 21 in close sight.

"Nice Kicker"

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

James Lawrence saw action folded to him on the button and opened to 32,000. John Sorenson defended his big blind and the two went heads up to a flop of {6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. Sorenson checked to Lawrence, who made a continuation-bet of 25,000. Sorenson called and the turn came {5-Hearts}, where both players checked.

The river fell {2-Diamonds} and Sorenson put out a bet of 50,000. Lawrence thought for about 30 seconds and then made the call.

Sorenson showed {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Lawrence tabled {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}, both showing a pair of sevens with Lawrence's ace kicker being the difference.

Sorenson confirmed as much: "nice kicker!" he said as the pot was sent Lawrence's way.
