Pete Kaemmerlen Eliminated in 7th Place ($6,534)

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante
Pete Kaemmerlen - 7th Place
Pete Kaemmerlen - 7th Place

It was a quick fall from grace for Pete Kaemmerlen. Not long ago he was sitting with more than a million in chips, but not he's sitting on the rail.

After losing a big pot to Bob De Wolfe, who hit runner-runner straight, Kaemmerlen played a big pot against Andre Smith.

We picked up the action on a {2-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop with around 150,000 in the pot when Smith led out for 70,000 from the small blind and Travell Thomas folded from middle position. Kaemmerlen then raised to 205,000 from the button, which prompted Smith to move all in. Kaemmerlen, who had about 300,000 or so back, called off.

Kaemmerlen: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Smith: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Smith had flopped the nuts, and the table seemed surprised he had led out with it. The {3-Hearts} turn left Kaemmerlen drawing dead, and after the {8-Spades} was put out on the river, Smith was pushed the massive pot.

"I donk bet the nuts for G-Money," Smith told us after the hand. G-Money will know what it means.

Johannes Mueller Eliminated in 8th Place ($5,121)

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante
Johannes Mueller - 8th Place
Johannes Mueller - 8th Place

Prior to the 2014 Western New York Poker Challenge, Managing Editor Brett Collson put together a list of players to watch at the series, which included Johannes Mueller. Here is what he wrote:

Mueller knows how to navigate a field. According to the Hendon Mob, Mueller has 21 live tournament cashes to his credit. He made the final table in 11 of those tournaments, including the Seneca Fall Poker Classic Main Event last year (he finished fourth for $14,558). Mueller's first tournament win came a month later at the SuperStacks Hold'em Series at Turning Stone, and he kept the momentum going by winning a side event at the Borgata Winter Poker Open in January. Last month he placed seventh in a $1,100 Fallsview Poker Classic event for $18,134. That tournament was eventually won by red-hot tournament pro Mike Leah.

Mueller proved Collson right by making the final table here in the Main Event, but unfortunately his deep run came to an end in eighth place. In his final hand, Mueller moved all in from early position for 94,000 and Andre Smith called from the big blind.

Mueller: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}
Smith: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Mueller got it in great, but the {2-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop evened things up a bit as Smith picked up a flush draw. The {K-Clubs} turn completed it, and Mueller was drawing dead headed to the {Q-Hearts} river.

Mueller, ever the gentleman, had three final words... "Good luck everyone."

Joe Cruz Eliminated in 9th Place ($4,062)

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Joe Cruz - 9th Place
Joe Cruz - 9th Place

We didn't pick up the action until the turn on a board reading {2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Joe Cruz had jammed his last 105,000 or so holding the {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and ran smack dab into Pete Kaemmerlen's {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}. Apparently Kaemmerlen had gotten sneaky by flatting preflop.

Anyway, the {Q-Spades} failed to help Cruz on the river and he was dispatched in ninth place for $4,062.

Mike Shavensky Eliminated in 10th Place ($3,355)

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Mike Shavensky - 10th Place
Mike Shavensky - 10th Place

Andre Smith opened the action for 35,000 and received a call from Bob De Wolfe. Mike Shavensky then moved all in for right around 170,000, and Kyle Gay moved all in over the top from the big blind. Both Smith and De Wolfe folded, and Shavensky seemed to know he was in trouble.

Shavensky: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Gay: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Indeed, Gay had woken up with the best hand in poker just at the right time. The {4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop contained a paint card, but not the one Shavensky was looking for. The same can be said of the {K-Hearts} turn, meaning Shavensky was down to two outs headed to the river.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {3-Diamonds}. Shavensky fell in tenth place while Gay, who was the short stack at the start of the final table, vaulted to over 600K!

Walking Sticks No Good for Walker

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

A short-stacked Kyle Gay got his chips all in preflop holding the {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} and was racing against the {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} of Nicholas Walker. The {6-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} flop gave Gay the lead, and he never looked back as the {5-Clubs} was put out on the turn followed by the {5-Hearts} on the river.
