Gauchat Mauled by De Wolfe

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Bob De Wolfe limped under the gun and the next player to act, Kyle Gauchat, three-bet to 13,500. Action folded back to De Wolfe, who called, and it was heads-up action to the {4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop. De Wolfe led for 30,000 and then called when Gauchat shoved his remaining stack.

Gauchat: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
De Wolfe: {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Gauchat had the best of it preflop, but De Wolfe found a jack on the flop to take a commanding lead. The {7-Spades} turn left Gauchat in need of the case ten to stay alive, but that didn't come as the {7-Clubs} blanked on the river.

Gauchat fell in 28th place, which means the remaining players are now redrawing down to the final three tables.

"That Was a Slow Roll"

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

John Aga limped under the gun and a short-stacked Travell Thomas shoved all in from the cutoff for 26,000. The rest of the players folded and Aga thought for about 30 seconds before making the call.

Aga: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Thomas: {a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

"That was a slow roll," the talkative Thomas said, "Ace of clubs."

Thomas asked but was not answered on the {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop. "Ace of clubs," he tried again as he got out of his chair. The dealer did not oblige and put out the {J-Spades} instead.

Thomas was one card away from elimination, which is when his prays were answered... the {A-Clubs} spiked on the river! The table couldn't believe while a smiling Thomas sat back down.

An Elimination Just Before the Break

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

In the last hand before the break, a big hand was brewing over at the feature table.

On a flop of {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, Weiyi Mo had checked from the small blind and chip leader Jerry Calvaneso bet 8,000. Mo responded by moving all in for 64,600 more, and Calvaneso thought long and hard before making the call.

Mo: {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Calvaneso: {10-Spades}{9-Spades}

Calvaneso had flopped top pair with a gutshot straight draw, which was behind the two pair of Mo. Some players from the other tables began to gather during the break, and they watched as the {2-Hearts} turn brought Mo one step closer to a double.

Unfortunately for her, the {8-Hearts} then spiked on the river to give Calvaneso a straight. The railbirds erupted in disbelief that Calvaneso, who has been running hot all tournament, continued his run good.

Grana Runs Big Slick Into Pocket Rockets

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

A short-stacked Dave Grana was no doubt excited to look down at the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and get his chips all in preflop, but the excitement was short lived as his opponent, Nicholas Walker, had him crushed with the {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}.

Grana was up out of his seat even before the flop fell {9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{j-Spades}, but he paused when the {10-Clubs} turn gave him a Broadway draw. A queen would complete it, but a lady wasn't in the cards as the {5-Hearts} blanked. Grana was eliminated in 30th place, which means eight more must go before we reach the money.

Goertz Gutted

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

"All in and a call," we hard a dealer yell. We made our way over to discover action had broke out on an {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop that resulted in Jim Goerzt getting his last 47,900 in the pot against Thomas Babiarz.

Goertz excitedly tabled the {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for top two pair, but he was gutted to see he had been coolered as Babiarz held the {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a set.

"Ace one time," Goertz pleaded, but it was in vain as the {2-Hearts} blanked on the turn followed by the {3-Hearts} on the river.

Goertz was clearly disappointed, but he compose himself enough to shake hands with Babiarz. Goertz then made his way to the rail for a consolatory hug from his wife, Stephanie.

Saffron Runs Eights Into Kings

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Todd Saffron on Day 1.
Todd Saffron on Day 1.

A short-stacked Todd Saffron moved all in for 46,400 under the gun and Joseph Elia isolated with a big three-bet from the cutoff. The button and both blinds folded, and the cards were turned up.

Elia: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Saffron: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

The {k-Spades}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop delivered Elia a set, which meant Saffron needed to catch perfect running eights to stay alive. It was an incredibly long shot, but the {8-Hearts} turn made it possible. Saffron paused for a moment to watch the river, which ended up being the useless {4-Diamonds}.
