A Historic Event

A brief pause in play allowed Kerryjane Craigie to make a statement to the room officially announcing that this Main Event now held the record for the largest Women’s event held outside of Las Vegas. The record was previously held by the Women’s Event hosted at the Goliath festival in 2016, which amassed 219 runners for its humble £50 buy-in, further accentuating the achievement set today.

Last Chance for Spragg

Marle Spragg was the only PokerStars ambassador to try her luck in the last remaining flight of this Main Event, looking to join the likes of Jen Shahade and Georgina James on Day 2.

Marle Spragg

Spragg had a turbulent journey in this turbo flight, first being left short by an unconventional line taken by Camilla Buswell, forcing the ambassador to pitch her cards into the muck.
But it wasn’t long before momentum seemingly switched; Spragg’s short stack jam on the flop ran into the pocket aces of Sophie Stubbs, but a runner-runner flush ensured her survival, doubling her up.

However, it wasn’t to be; Spragg finally crashed out in 21st place, just five spots away from making Day 2.

Steele's Sun Run Continues

Familiar faces to progress include Jennifer Steele (179,000). Steele most notably came into today fresh off her 2nd place finish in the £1,100 Women’s Winter Festival High Roller, last night, for £6,400. In addition, Steele sent Buswell to the rail on the stone bubble to conclude this Day 1 flight.

Play will recommence tomorrow, November 23, at 12:30 p.m. local time. With 20 minutes left on the clock in Level 15, blinds will be at 2,000/5,000 with a 5,000 big blind ante. Players will first navigate a tricky bubble with 15% of the field making the money. Play will conclude at approximately 4:30 p.m. to allow participants to also play the upcoming £220 NLH 50/50 Freezeout.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back tomorrow to bring you more coverage of the Women’s Winter Festival Main Event here in London, so stay tuned.

The action was caught as Camilla Buswell, who was under the gun, found herself all in and at risk against Jennifer Steele, in the big blind.

Camilla Buswell: K?5? All in
Jennifer Steele: A?6?

Buswell needed help, but the A?9?6? flop did not oblige. The J? turn changed nothing and the 3? river confirmed Buswell's departure. The remaining 16 players have now all progressed to Day 2.

Sophie Stubbs raised to 8,500 from under the gun. Marle Spragg, in the big blind, made the call.

Spragg checked at the sight of the K?J?J? flop. Stubbs bet out 6,500 and Spragg check-raised, moving all in for 28,500. Stubbs called.

Marle Spragg: Q?10? All in
Sophie Stubbs: A?A?

"That's not a good hand to see," announced Spragg as she found out an ace was no longer an out to a straight.

However, the 6? turn gave her a flush draw and the 9? river completed that draw, cracking aces to stay alive.

Alex O'Brien
Alex O'Brien

The pot stood at around 14,200 with two players looking at a flop of A?10?J?.

Alexandra O'Brien, in the hijack, checked the action to Tanya Masters, in the cutoff. Masters bet out 10,000 and O'Brien check-raised, moving all in for 35,300. Masters went deep into the tank, thinking for some before making the call.

Alexandra O'Brien: J?10? All in
Tanya Masters: A?K?

O'Brien was ahead with two pair and the 2? turn was a safe one. However, the A? river gave Masters trips to send O'Brien to the rail.

Webley Had Already Folded the Winner

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Vanessa Webley
Vanessa Webley

Vanessa Webley raised to 1,200 from the cutoff, Grace Walsh called in the hijack, as did Natalie Wood-Stoddard, in the small blind.

The action checked to Walsh, who took the lead for 1,000 on the 9?3?Q? flop. Wood-Stoddard called and Webley folded.

The 7? turn and the 7? river checked to a showdown. Walsh tabled J?10? for a missed straight draw. Wood-Stoddard claimed this pot with K?10? for a superior king-high. Webley seemed surprised as she admitted she would have had the best hand at showdown.

Michelle Bricknell
Michelle Bricknell

Michelle Bricknell rasied to 1,400 from the hijack, Rachel Wong three-bet to 4,200 from the small blind and Bricknell called.

The 5?2?7? flop saw the Wong continue for 6,000. Bricknell immediately moved all in for around 25,000. Wong thought for some time before mucking A?J? face up.

As Bricknell raked in the pot she flashed A?J? to the table, later joking with Wong, saying "I'm not here to chop!".
