Klein Doubles Through Proulx

In the last hand of the level, Miguel Proulx raised to 120,000 from the small blind, and L.J. Klein called from the BB. The flop came {5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Proulx checked, and Klein bet 240,000, leaving himself about a half million behind. Proulx announced he was raising pot, and Klein called with his remaining chips.

Proulx {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}
Klein {J-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

An intriguing situation, in which Proulx's humble pair of fours were currently best. But the {9-Diamonds} turn gave Klein the straight, and the {2-Spades} sealed it.

Klein bounds back to around 1.7 million on that one, while Proulx slips back under 2 million. We'll get exact counts here in a second as the players are about to go on a 20-minute break.

Stephane Tayar Eliminated in 4th Place ($96,243)

Stephane Tayar (right) - 4th place

Stephane Tayar raised pot under the gun to 140,000, leaving himself only 10,000 behind. Miguel Proulx, who was next to act, made the call. The blinds then got out of the way.

Before the flop, Tayar bet his last 10,000 and Proulx called so they could turn up their cards.

Tayar: {8-Spades}{9-Spades}{J-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Proulx: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

The flop came down {10-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Clubs}, giving Tayar a pair of queens with a draw to the straight flush if the {J-Spades} hit; however, Proulx had picked up the royal flush draw, so Tayar needed to avoid all spades.

Unfortunately for him, the {2-Spades} cale on the turn, locking up the hand for Proulx. The {7-Clubs} was run out on the river for good measure, and Tayar was officially eliminated from the tournament in fourth place.

Joerg Engels Eliminated in 5th Place ($72,227)

Joerg Engels - 5th place
Joerg Engels - 5th place

Joerg Engels has survived a few all-in situations today, but his good fortune in those spots has finally run out.

Engels open-raised to 110,000 from the button, and Michael Greco called from the big blind. The flop came {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Greco checked, Engels pushed his remaining stack of approximately 260,000 in the middle, and Greco quickly called.

Greco {A-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Engels {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

Greco's trip sixes put him well ahead of Engels. The turn was the {A-Hearts}, giving Greco a boat. And the river was the {7-Spades}, sending Engels to the rail.

That hand puts Greco a little over a million in chips, good for second with four players left.

Engels Avoids Elimination

After that flurry of activity, we had a hand in which Miguel Proulx was not involved. Short stack Joerg Engels managed a double-up through L.J. Klein, pushing back up to 360,000. Klein slips back to 688,000.

Klein is still in second, but way, way behind Proulx now who has more than 2.4 million in front of him.

Karl Gal Eliminated in 6th Place ($54,736)

A hand after Miguel Proulx eliminated Trevor Pope, Karl Gal moved all in for his last 200,000 after a preflop raise and was instantly called by Proulx.

Gal: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Proulx: {10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

Gal was ahead and actually improved to a flush when the flop came {2-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Proulx had flopped two pair and was looking to hit a jack or queen. The {A-Spades} on the turn was no help, but the {Q-Clubs} on the river sent reactions of shock and awe through the rail.

Proulx, who has been on a roll, is up over two million while Gal was eliminated from the tournament in sixth place ($54,736).

Trevor Pope Eliminated in 7th Place ($41,850)

Trevor Pope opened with a raise to 100,000 from under the gun, and it folded to new chip leader Miguel Proulx who reraised the pot. It folded back to Pope, and he committed his last 220,000 or so to make the call.

Pope had a nice starter -- {J-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades} -- and was looking for the community cards to cooperate versus Proulx's {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. But the board didn't work out for Pope, coming {6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades}, and he's out.

Proulx adds to his already big stack, pushing out over 1.9 million.

Monster Pot

Miguel Proulx raised to 100,000 from the cutoff and was called by L.J. Klein from the button and Karl Gal from the big blind.

The flop came {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Gal checked. Proulx bet 200,000 and Klein made the call. After Gal got out of the way, Proulx checked the {7-Diamonds} on the turn and Klein bet 250,000.

Proulx raised all in, creating a pot over one million. Klein seemed frustrated and folded, leaving himself with 848,000. Meanwhile, Proulx is distancing himself as the chip leader with 1.6 million
