Gray Doubles and Tieman Is Crushed

Pot-Limit Omaha

Gavin Cochrane raised from the button and Joshua Tieman flatted from the small blind. Craig Gray was in the big blind and reraised all in for 79,000 more. We're unsure of the opening raise, but there was roughly 70,000 chips in the pot already. Cochrane tank-folded and then Tieman tank-called.

Tieman held the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Gray the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

The board ran out {J-Spades}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Gray doubled up. Tieman was crippled down to 55,000 in chips.

Boutin Plays It Slow

Pot-Limit Omaha

In a four-way limped pot, all four players checked the {5-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop and they all proceeded to the {k-Diamonds} turn on which Burt Boutin (small blind) bet pot, or 40,000 to you and me. Rob Hollink (under the gun) was the only caller.

Hollink and Boutin went heads up to the {9-Spades} river and Boutin checked. Hollink dwelled up for a while before checking behind - and it was a good thing for him that he did, because Boutin slammed his hand down on the table - {a-Spades}{3-Spades}{k-Spades}{k-Hearts} for a turned top set which had turned into the nut flush by the river.

"Who has top set and the nut flush draw?" commented a passing Kevin MacPhee.

"The guy who won," the dealer quipped back.

Boutin moved forward to 280,000. Hollink dropped back to 320,000.

Sterling Getting Pounded

Matt Sterling potted, only for Burt Boutin to re-pot. The unhappy Sterling folded and dropped to just 107,000.

So it was that a couple hands later, Rob Hollink made it 23,000 in the cutoff, only for Matt Sterling to re-pot from the small blind - 56,000 - with around 19,000 behind. Once the amounts had been agreed and Sterling's reraise counted out in front of him, he turned to the TV and pretended to be interested in the golf. Hollink stared into his Starbucks for a while. Eventually he folded, and Sterling bumped his short stack back up to 130,000. Hollink dropped to 440,000.

Chiu Chiu Train Makes an Unscheduled Drop-Off

Pot-Limit Omaha

Burt Boutin limped under the gun and David Chiu raised to 28,000. Call.

Said Chiu, "You don't wanna make the final table, huh."

They proceeded to check down the {3-Clubs}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs} board and Chiu turned over a rather premium {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Boutin, however, tabled {j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for two pair. He took the pot and increased his stack to 180,000. Chiu slipped back just a little to 550,000.

Velador Slams Shut for Sterling

Pot-Limit Omaha

We caught up with Jose-Luis Velador and Matt Sterling on the river of a {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{q-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board. Velador was betting out 44,000.

"Oh man," sighed Sterling, and disappeared into his own private tank of indecision for a while. When he emerged, it was to fold with a look of deep sadness on his face.

Sterling, who'd been making something of a recovery, dropped back to 160,000.
