Chamoun Takes Some From Juanda

Action folded to John Juanda's button and he made it 18,000 to go. Julien Chamoun called from the small blind and Roman Duiunov tagged along from the big blind.

The dealer showed the trio a diamond-encrusted flop: {2-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. Two fists tapped the table and Juanda continued out for 28,000. Chamoun called and Duiunov mucked his hand.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and both players checked. There were two checks once again on the {2-Clubs} river and Chamoun showed {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a pair of jacks. Juanda mucked his hand and Chamoun was awarded the pot.

Teddy Sheringham (Day 2ab) has been eliminated
Teddy Sheringham (Day 2ab) has been eliminated

When we heard "All in and a call, 415!", we rushed over to see that Teddy Sheringham and William Hefflefinger were heads up, and the board read {9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

Sheringham turned over {9-}{7-} for trip nines, Hefflefinger tabled {7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a turned straight, and Sheringham, a former striker for both Manchester United and the English national football team, is eliminated.

Allen No More

Chun Chen has just managed to double up and leave Jeremy Allen with so few chips that he was unable to recover. The hand in question saw Chen all in preflop for around 140,000 holding {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds} against Allen's {k-Spades}{q-Spades}. The {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} board was no good to Allen as he sent the big double up to Chen.

Allen was left with only 30,000 in chips after the above hand and clearly couldn't recover as we saw him exiting the tournament are just a few moments after this hand.

A Few Chips for Chan

A player in the hijack seat raised to 16,000 and Johnny Chan called from the small blind. The flop came {4-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was the {4-Clubs}. Chan checked, and when his opponent bet 21,000, Chan quickly called. Both then checked the {2-Diamonds} river.

Chan rolled over {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for queens and fours, which was good enough as his opponent mucked. The two-time WSOP Main Event champ and 10-time bracelet winner continues to hover just under 400,000 as the field shrinks below 400 players.

An Orbit with Daniel Negreanu

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Daniel Negreanu

The Main Event is a beast of a tournament. It requires hours of sitting idly in chair with infrequent moments of thrill. Most of the time poker tournaments are long grinds of boredom and we like to give our readers an inside look at playing in the most prestigious tournament in the world.

At the center of the craziness is one of poker's biggest stars - Daniel Negreanu. He's constantly surrounded by cameras, having his picture taken and asked for autographs at the WSOP. We'll let you behind the ropes to spend an orbit with Kid Poker.

Hand 1 - Negreanu started on the button, action folded around to him and he raised to 18,000. The small blind folded and the big blind, Ryan Young, had not returned from dinner and Negreanu won the pot.

He noticed the cameras around Jason Somerville's table and asked another player at the table if Somerville was in the hand. He wasn't and Negreanu seemed relieved.

Hand 2 - Negreanu was in the cutoff and opened for 18,000. The player on the button folded, Young's small blind was forfeited and Sam Soverel folded his big blind after a long pause.

"I was gonna call if you jammed," Negreanu said. "I could see you doing the math in your head." He showed {A-Spades} {J-Spades}.

Hand 3 - Negreanu folded preflop and lamented, "Why didn't he bet there?" He got up from the table and pulled Somerville away from the camera circus of a table. They talked in hushed tones for about 30 seconds before they each returned to their seats.

Hand 4 - Negreanu opened for 18,000 and Soverel moved all in from the button.

"I'm gonna get busted by Daniel," Soverel said.

The blinds released, Negreanu called and took it upon himself to call the cameras over.

Negreanu: {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades}
Soverel: {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

The board ran {5-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {7-Hearts} and Soverel doubled up from 183,000. Negreanu's stack slipped to a little over 500,000.

Hand 5 - Negreanu folded preflop and shifted back and forth uncomfortably in his chair. As a hand played out Negreanu leaned back in his chair and told Somerville about the hand he lost.

Hand 6 - Ryan Young finally returned to his seat and Negreanu welcomed him back. He briefly told Young about the hand he lost as players at the other side of the table got to a four-bet preflop.

Negreanu refocused on the table and studied his opponents as they played to the turn.

Hand 7 - Negreanu was in the big blind for 8,000 and Joel Bullock opened to 19,000. A player on the button called and Negreanu called as well. The flop came {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {2-Spades} and they all checked. The turn came {10-Clubs} followed by a round of checks. The river {K-Clubs} saw all players check again.

"Jack high," Negreanu said and the player on the button tabled {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} to win the hand.

Hand 8 - Olivier Chubilleua opened for 16,000 in late position and Negreanu raised to 44,000 from the small blind. Chubilleua tanked for a short time while Negreanu leaned forward and studied him from across the table.

Chubilleua folded and Negreanu took the small pot.

Hand 9 - Negreanu was back on the button and folded preflop with not action in front of him. He ended the orbit with 560,000.

Cheong Eliminates McDonald

Mike McDonald Eliminated
Mike McDonald Eliminated

We caught up to Table #423 to hear an "All in" and a "Call" with the board reading {2-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. Mike McDonald was all in and at risk holding {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Unfortunately for McDonald, Joseph Cheong was holding {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for trip deuces.

The {Q-Spades} dropped down on fourth street and McDonald was drawing thin heading to the river. The river was four-across, but it was the {9-Diamonds}, signaling McDonald that it was his time to head to the exit.

With that elimination, Cheong is now sitting on a stack of 785,000.

Negreanu Spikes Aces; Scoops Pot

Eduardo Trulli opened for 20,000 from the cutoff seat and directly behind him, Daniel Negreanu three-bet to 52,000 on the button. Action folded back around to Trulli, who then four-bet to 100,000 even. Negreanu called and it was heads-up going to the flop.

Both players checked the {10-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop.

"You got three queens bro?" Negreanu asked. "That's what it feels like."

The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} and Trulli opted to fire a small 40,000 bet into the middle. Negreanu called.

The {A-Spades} completed the board and Trulli checked.

"Okay, this is weird, but I check," Negreanu said. He then revealed {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} for a rivered pair of aces. Trulli showed he had {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} for pocket jacks and Negreanu scooped the pot.

Daniel Negreanu's stack slipped a bit after returning from dinner, but he is back up to 530,000.

Miracle River Saves Piso

Ankush Mandavia had raised under the gun to 16,000 after which Leon Piso moved all in from the button. Both blinds folded, and Mandavia made the call.

Ankush Mandavia{J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Leon Piso{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}.....{8-Hearts}, and Piso survived. The Dutchman made his apologies, but he was more than happy with his double up. Mandavia was left behind short, and now he's looking for some help.
