Last year's champion, Daniel Weinman kicked things off yesterday by announcing the famous words, "Shuffle Up and Deal." A total of 915 players came out for Day 1a, and after five levels of play, 620 maneuvered their way through to Day 2abc which will take place on Sunday, July 7.

The United States' Joshua Feiger topped the chip counts after Day 1a with 311,900. However, two-time bracelet winner Frank Funaro is close behind with 265,000 in chips. Phil Galfond managed to sneak into the top 40 on the leaderboard, ending the day with 182,700.

Other notable players returning on Sunday include Kevin Gerhart (150,700), Bryce Yockey (149,000), 2007 Main Event champion Jerry Yang (118,800), Aleksejs Ponakovs (111,600), Parker Talbot (106,700), and five-time bracelet winner Michael Mizrachi (74,000).

Players will start with 60,000 chips, and each of the initial flights will complete five 120-minute levels before the remaining players bag their chips for the night. Breaks are scheduled after each level, with a 75-minute dinner break planned after Level 3. Survivors from Day 1b will merge with those from 1a and 1c on Sunday, July 7, for Day 2abc.
