Guzzardi Survives

A rare losing pot for Rainer Quel has come at the hands of Billy "the Croc" Argyros and Michael Guzzardi. Guzzardi was all in by the turn with the board showing {6-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}. Quel and Argyros checked down the {9-Diamonds} river to showdown.

Guzzardi: {A-Clubs} {9-Spades} {q-Hearts} {10-Hearts}
Quel: {K-Clubs} {K-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}
Argyros: {A-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {5-Spades}

"Up against kings and the nut flush draw," marveled Argyros when he saw that Guzzardi's hand took down the high with trip nines. "That's why he's TheBigSiCkO." Argyros took the low half with his ace-three, leaving Quel out in the cold.

Judah Quarters Stanton

A big three-way pot contested among Jeffrey Duvall, Mel Judah and Mick "the Hoon" Stanton saw Stanton survive but lose chips when he received only one-quarter of the pot. Judah opened preflop with a raise. Duvall followed with a three-bet that both Stanton and Judah called.

The flop was all babies, {4-Clubs} {5-Spades} {6-Hearts}. Judah led out and again Duvall raised. Stanton and Judah both called to the {6-Clubs} turn. Judah finally slowed down with a check to Duvall, who bet. Stanton called, Judah check-raised, Duvall called and then Stanton called all in. Judah got one more bet in on the {j-Clubs} river, where he showed down {A-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} for the nut low and a flush. Duvall showed {7-Hearts} {3-Spades} {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} for the second nut low and a seven-high straight, neither of which was good.

Stanton showed down for the main pot, tabling {A-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}. He received half of the low half of the pot and is still in the tournament, but only barely. He has 11,000 chips, Duvall has 8,000, and Judah jumped to 71,000.

Rainer Quel Can't Lose

It must seem that Rainer Quel is on the run of his life to the other players at his table. He just eliminated Con Angelakis, with Angelakis all in by the turn of a {7-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {K-Clubs} board. Angelakis showed {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {7-Hearts} for two pair, tens and sevens and a gutterball to Broadway. Quel turned over {K-Spades} {K-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {2-Spades}, double-suited kings that had improved from a flush draw on the flop to a set and flush draw on the turn. The river? It was the case king, {K-Diamonds}, to make quads for Quel.

Quel's sitting pretty at 89,000 chips while Angelakis is sittting on the rail.

Stanton Scoops

Mick "The Hoon" Stanton
Mick "The Hoon" Stanton
Mick "The Hoon" Stanton raised from the button with Con Angelakis and Michael Guzzardi making the call in the blinds.

The flop was {K-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Angelakis checked to Guzzardi who bet out for 1,600. Stanton made the call as did Angelakis.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and the blinds checked through to Stanton who bet for 3,200. Angelakis called as Guzzardi stepped out of the way.

The river landed the {J-Hearts} and again Angelakis checked to Stanton who decided to fire another bullet which Angelakis called.

With no low on board, Stanton tabled {K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a flopped full house to scoop the entire pot. "The Hoon" is now up to 27,000.

Paul Sharbanee Eliminated

The tournament is down to its last two tables after the recent elimination of Paul Sharbanee. Sharbanee made a stand with {A-Hearts} {10-Spades} {9-Spades} {2-Clubs} and ran into the One-Man Wrecking Crew, Rainer Quel, who showed {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} {7-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. There was no possible low on a board of {4-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {J-Spades}, making Quel's full house, aces full of jacks, the winner.

Quel is up to 91,000 in chips. We are seven eliminations away from the money.

Break Time

It's that time again -- the time when all of the smokers hustle off to the smoking patio and everyone else hits the loo. See you in ten minutes.

That's Not the Nuts?

Jeffrey Duvall squeezed out his cards one at a time. He saw a four, a four, a four, and a four. He flashed his cards to one of the floor supervisors with a grin and sent them into the muck.

"You think I could go for a wheel there?" he asked us. No, Jeffrey. We don't think you can.
