Negreanu Tries Wiese

A sneaky Daniel Negreanu, with a combination of disguised hand and non-stop patter finessed a couple of hundred thousand out of Andreas Wiese just now in a blind on blind confrontation.

It folded to Negreanu preflop, who started up immediately: "It's me and you, buddy. You're a new guy! I have no history with you. I'm probably just going to limp. Yes." He limped. Wiese checked.

The flop: {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. Negreanu checked, Wiese bet 100k, Negreanu called.

The turn: {5-Spades}. Check to Wiese once again; he bet 250k.

"I thnk you probably have the best hand," said Negreanu, "But I can't fold yet! There's too much stuff going on. There's a while bunch of stuff I could do... never mind. I'm calling 250. Gimme what I need, one time, one time..."

The river: {Q-Diamonds}. A third check from Negreanu saw Wiese run out of steam and uncertainly turn over {10-}{4-} for a pair of fours, while Negreanu turned over {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} to take the pot.

A Quick Step and Nanos Takes a Back Step

We have just had one of the most important hands of this final table so far. Konstantinos Nanos opened for 205,000 and Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu three-bet from the Blinds making it 555,000 for Nanos to play and he made the call.

Flop: {4-Spades} {q-Hearts} {3-Spades}

Negreanu bet 400,000 and Nanos very quickly took two towers of his 25k orange chips and attempted to shove them into the middle. As he did this one of the towers crumbled at exactly the same time he announced "one million." Negreanu immediately declared that he was all-in.

The Tournament Director decided that the bet was confirmed as 775,000. This was later changed to 800,000 after Negreanu intervened. Nanos looked like he was in a world of hurt while Negreanu started singing We Will Rock You.

"This is fun." said Negreanu. I don't think Nanos agreed.

Nanos after a very long pause eventually folded showing {a-} {q-} for top pair. Negreanu showed the solitary {k-Spades} and takes over the chip lead.

Hruby Worth More Now

Martin Hruby
Martin Hruby

Daniel Negreanu raised to 160,000 and Martin Hruby, our eternal microstack at this final table so far, pushed his whole stack into the middle with an air of resignation. Negreanu called, and they were on their proverbial backs.

Negreanu: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Hruby: in some hot water with {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

But wait!

Board: {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

Negreanu didn't look terribly happy at all as Hruby spiked a ten and doubled to 1.37 million, the first time he's been above the million mark today. Negreanu dropped into third place in the chip counts behind Cainelli and Nanos.

Matthias Lotze Eliminated in 7th Place (76,000)

Matthias Lotze: lozt
Matthias Lotze: lozt

Luca Cainelli gave a textbook nitroll to keep Matthias Lotze sweating preflop for the longest possible time, before calling to take him out. The pot had been opened by Cainelli for 230k, and Lotze had pushed all in preflop for 1,085,000. Lotze's chips hovered in mid-table limbo for an unusual amount of time, as first neighbour Andreas Wiese asked for an accurate count, and then Michael Eiler too jumped on the timebank bus for a few stops. But in the end it was down to Cainelli to make the decision to call and put Lotze's tournament life at risk. He looked pained, thought for a minute or more, and finally called with {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}. Lotze showed {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and stood up.

The flop came down {K-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{9-Hearts} spelling the beginning of the end for Lotze, and the turn and river {9-Diamonds}{K-Spades} were not black tens. Lotze heads to the rail while Cainelli takes over the chip lead with nearly 5.5 million chips.

Cainelli Takes a Bite Out of Nanos

Konstantinos Nanos raised and picked up a call from Luca Cainelli to see a {j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} flop; Nanos bet out 335,000 and Cainelli called. All good so far.

They proceeded directly to the {7-Clubs} and Nanos bet out again, this time to the tune of 470,000. This time things got rather less friendly, though, as following a period in the tank, Cainelli announced all in for 2.44 million in total.

There followed some truly epic tanking from Nanos, but eventually he folded. The pot headed into Cainelli's stack, and he's now well over the 4 million mark.

Squ-wiese Play!

Luca Cainelli raised from the cut-off and Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu just called from the Button. Matthias Lotze folded from the Small Blind and Andreas Wiese made the squeeze from the Big Blind with a bet of 580,000. Cainelli folded and Negreanu made the call. The flop was {5-Spades} {q-Diamonds} {k-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and Wiese checked again and Negreanu made a very small bet of 200,000. "Call." announced Wiese very quickly.

The river was the {5-Clubs} and both players checked and Negreanu scooped the pot with a pair of eights.
