The Champ Mucks

We found this hand at the river with 2007 WSOP Main Event champ Jerry Yang facing a bet of 3,000 on the river. There was already a pot of around 5,000 and the board read {4-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {10-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}. Yang's opponent sat motionless as Yang thought over his decision.

Yang elected to call and his opponent tabled {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}. After a short moment Yang folded and is below the 20,000 starting stack.

Tables Of Death

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Very often in these tournaments, you will see plenty of big names battling it out at the late registrants tables, and here it is no different. On one table, we have one poor player who is stuck between WPT winner Tuan Le and 2-time WSOP winner Jeff Madsen. At another table, we saw Thor Hansen and Owais Ahmed bumping elbows, and the empty seat at that table has been replaced by one of the most familiar faces on all of poker, Allen Cunningham. Should be a fun table to watch.

Massey Makes His Exit

Aaron Massey is a regular on the WSOP Circuit, and has made several final tables over the past few years. However, he will have to wait until at least tonight for another shot at a final table, as he has been eliminated from day 1a. We caught the action with Massey already all in with the board reading {2-Spades}{a-Clubs}{4-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. Two other players were involved in a big side pot, but one of them folded on the turn, leaving Massey heads up for his tournament life.

Massey: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Massey's kings were unable to dodge the ace, and he would have to catch the case king to survive. He wouldn't, as the river came the {9-Hearts}. Massey will have the option to either re-enter tonight or tomorrow morning.

Demaci Crippled

There's few feelings better in poker then flopping a set. On the flip side, there are few worse feelings in poker then flopping set under set. Unfortunately for Chris Demaci, he felt both these on a roller coaster hand that has left him crippled. We caught the action with the board reading {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Demaci and his opponent got all the money in on the turn, and when the cards were flipped, Demaci saw that he was in a world of hurt.

Demaci: {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

Demaci was left looking for a one outer on the river, but the river came the {5-Hearts}. After the stacks were counted, Demaci was left with just 1,750.

Tables Keep Adding to the Field

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Punctuality is usually not in a poker player's vocabulary. That said we've had a steady stream of players joining the field and there are already six more tables than we had at the start of the tournament. Our best guess is that we're at about 250-270 entrants at this point. We'll give the official number as soon as we receive the information.

Baker Bluffs, Gets Caught

David "ODB" Baker saw down at one of the first late registration tables in the ballroom, and immediately got to work in a big pot. Unfortunately, it didn't quite go his way. We caught the board at the river, reading {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{k-Spades}. Baker had put out a bet of about 3,350, and his opponent thought for about 30 seconds, before putting in a raise to over 11,000. Baker took little time in folding his hand, and he has been knocked down to around 13,000.
