Pros on the Rail

As the hour grows later, more familiar faces are filling out the stands. Eli Elezra, David Levi, Marsha Waggoner, Yuval Bronshtein, Thor Hansen and our new chip-counter Gus Hansen are all in the house sweating the action.

Chip Lead Swings Back to Hanson

Razz

Erik Sagstrom (X)(X) {5-?} {6-?} {4-?} {K-?} (X)
John Hanson (X)(X) {6-?} {4-?} {9-?} {Q-?} (X)

David Bach brought it in with a king, Sagstrom completed, Hanson raised, Bach folded and Sagstrom called. Heads-up to fourth street.

Hanson led out on fourth and Bach called. Both players checked fifth street. Hanson check-called a bet on sixth street, then checked the river. Sagstrom bet, Hanson raised, and Sagstrom folded. Hanson took down the pot.

Chopped by the River

Omaha-8

Erik Sagstrom raised the button and David Bach called in the big blind.

The flop was {A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Bach checked over to Sagstrom. He fired a bet and Bach called.

The {Q-Hearts} fell on the turn and Bach checked, Sagstrom bet but Bach then announced a raise making it 480,000 to go. Sagstrom made the call.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Bach led out with a bet. Sagstrom made the call.

Bach tabled {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for two pair and nut low, but Sagstrom collected half with {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a bigger two pair.

The Seven Million Dollar Man

Omaha-8

Erik Sagstrom raised from the small blind and John Hanson defended his big blind.

The flop was {10-Spades} {5-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}. Sagstrom led out and Hanson called. Sagstrom fired again when the {6-Spades} hit the turn, Hanson raised, Sagstrom three-bet, and Hanson called. The river was the {A-Diamonds} and both players checked.

Hanson showed {A-Hearts} {J-Spades} {9-Spades} {4-Clubs} for a pair of aces and a 6-5-4-3-A low, but Sagstrom turned up {A-Spades} {2-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} for a 6-5-3-2-A low and two pair, aces and tens. Sagstrom scooped the pot and took his stack up to 7,000,000.

Small One For Sagstrom

Omaha-8

Erik Sagstrom raised to 240,000 from the button and John Hanson made the call from the small blind. David Bach folded his big blind and they saw a heads-up flop of {3-Spades}{2-Spades}{J-Spades}.

Both players checked and the {Q-Clubs} hit the turn. Once again both checked and the free card on the river was the {2-Hearts}. Hanson checked and Sagstrom took a stab with a bet of 240,000. Hanson thought for a few moments before releasing.

... And Sagstrom Quarters Bach

Omaha-8

David Bach opened for a raise, Erik Sagstrom three-bet and Bach called.

Bach checked the {8-Hearts} {8-Spades} {5-Clubs} flop over to Sagstrom, who bet. Bach made the call. The turn was the {7-Spades} and Bach check-called another bet. He did the same on the river, which fell the {3-Hearts}.

Sagstrom showed {A-Spades} {K-Hearts} {3-Spades} {2-Hearts} for the nut low and two pair eights and threes. Bach had the same low with {A-Clubs} {2-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}. Sagstrom won the high and half the low, while Bach took the other half of the low pot.

Bach Scoops Sagstrom

Omaha-8

Erik Sagstrom raised from the button and David Bach called in the big blind.

The flop landed {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Bach checked to Sagstrom who fired a bet. Bach made the call.

The turn was the {A-Hearts} and Bach checked to Sagstrom who again made a bet, this time for 240,000. Bach cut out his remaining chips, realising that this was a make or break decision, before tossing chips into the middle to make the call.

The {3-Clubs} hit the river and Bach now led at the pot with a bet with Sagstrom making the call.

Bach tabled {7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{Q-Spades} for a flush and sixty-five low, which was good to scoop as Sagstrom tabled {2-Spades}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a pair of threes and eight-low.

Bach scoops the pot and recovers some much needed chips.

Bach's Bluff Backfires

Hold'em

David Bach limped in from the small blind and Erik Sagstrom checked his option.

Bach led out on the {5-Spades} {3-Spades} {2-Hearts} flop and Sagstrom called. Bach fired again when the {3-Diamonds} hit the turn and Sagstrom called. The river was the {4-Diamonds}. Bach bet and Sagstrom called.

Bach had air with {10-Hearts} {8-Hearts} and Sagstrom took it down with {K-Spades} {6-Spades} for the six-high straight.

Bach was left with only 670,000.
