We haven't even started yet but the players are already complaining!
Although we are located on the feature table — or the Mothership as some would say — and there is a live stream, the use of RFID cards isn't needed since we are playing a draw game.
With the RFID cards being substantially larger than the standard poker cards, it eliminates the chance for players to squeeze out when drawing. Consequently several players have asked for the standard poker deck to be used and the Tournament Director is working on getting a replacement deck, and thus the start of play has been delayed slightly.
Welcome back to our ongoing coverage of the 2014 World Series of Poker! Today marks the conclusion of Event #13: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship. Yesterday's play saw the returning 36 players whittled down to a final table of seven. Paul Volpe, the only player at the final table without at least one WSOP bracelet to his name, leads the field with 783,000.
While Volpe holds the largest stack at the final table, he'll find tough competition in his competitors who represent poker's elite. Also appearing at the final table are Jason Mercier (469,000), Daniel Negreanu (426,000), Brian Rast (390,000), Larry Wright (203,000), John Monnette (169,000) and Abe Mosseri (162,000).
The field saw eliminations at a rapid pace yesterday, with the returning 36 being cut down to the final 12 in less than 4 hours. Some of the players to bust before the money was reached include Phil Hellmuth, Jean-Robert Bellande, David "Bakes" Baker, George Danzer, Shaun Deeb, Shawn Sheikhan, John Juanda, and start-of-day chip leader Jen Harman.
Once the money was reached, Jon Turner, Mike Watson, Greg Mueller, Joe Cassidy, Ashton Griffin, Darren Elias, and Rep Porter were all eliminated with another WSOP cash to their name. Unfortunately for each of those players, the dream of making the final table was not able to come to fruition.
Play for the bracelet begins at 2 p.m. local time. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews for all of the latest as this tournament plays down to a champion!
