Nelson Cracks Aces to Double

Level 30 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Dustin Nelson
Dustin Nelson

Matt Mamiya and Mourad Amokrane limped in preflop. From the button, Dustin Nelson raised to 660,000 and was called by Matthew Mlsna in the big blind.

Mamiya then announced pot for 2,800,000, Amokrane quickly folded, and Nelson called all in for about 600,000 more. Mlsna also got out of the way.

Dustin Nelson: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Matt Mamiya: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

Nelson's double-paired hand was trailing the aces of Mamiya as the flop came {10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. "How many spades do you have in that deck," he asked the dealer.

Nelson didn't get a spade on the turn, but he did get the {k-Hearts} to make a set of kings. The river came the {9-Diamonds} and Nelson doubled up. His rail erupted in celebration so loudly that Mamiya asked the tournament floor if the crowd could be cleared.

Amokrane Takes It on the River

Level 29 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Mourad Amokrane raised to 260,000 from under the gun and Matt Mamiya defended from the big blind. Action checked to the turn on a board of {4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} when Mamiya led out for 500,000.

Amokrane called to see the {2-Spades} on the river. Mamiya bet another 800,000 and Amokrane called after some hesitation.

Mamiya showed {2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades} for a pair of deuces and a missed straight draw. Amokrane had {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for two pair, queens and sevens, to take the pot.

"Nice call, man" a tablemate told Amokrane as he raked in the pot.

Matthew Mlsna
Matthew Mlsna

Matthew Humphrey opened the action with a raise to 250,000 from the button. Matthew Mlsna called in the small blind before Matt Mamiya re-raised to 1,000,000 in the big blind. Both Humphrey and Mlsna called.

Mlsna and Mamiya checked over to Humphrey on a {3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop, and he bet 2,500,000. Mlsna called all in for 2,185,000 and Mamiya folded.

Matthew Mlsna: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Matthew Humphrey: {k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Mlsna had flopped a set of kings to take the lead in the hand. The {7-Clubs} turn gave Humphrey a straight draw, but he bricked the {9-Diamonds} on the river as Mlsna finished with a full house to get the massive double-up.

Paulo Villena Eliminated in 6th Place ($23,392)

Level 29 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Paulo Villena
Paulo Villena

Matthew Humphrey called under the gun for 120,000 and it folded to Paulo Villena who pushed his entire stack forward from the small blind. He had too many chips to make an all-in raise, so his total bet was 360,000, with around 80,000 chips left behind. Dustin Nelson took a minute and raised. Humphrey folded and Villena called with his last chips to see the following shwodown:

Paulo Villena: {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Dustin Nelson: {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

The board revealed {8-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}, giving the straight to Nelson on the turn and eliminating Villena in 6th place.
