More flops are reaching the turn, and turns the river at the moment than throughout most of this final table. Pots aren't getting big, however, with some fast-paced if cagey play keeping them manageable - for now. A couple of examples:
Hand #138 Freddy Deeb limps on the button, no raise, and there follows checking in turn until the board reads at which point Mizzi folds to his 20k bet.
Hand #139 Mizzi makes it 20k to go preflop and Deeb calls. The flop arrives and Deeb checks. Mizzi counts out 27k, bets, but then folds promptly when Deeb makes it 87k.
Hand #130: Freddy Deeb opened to 22,000 and Sorel Mizzi called but then both players checked down the board. Deeb showed to win the pot.
Hand #133: Mizzi opened to 20,000 and Deeb called. The flop came and Deeb quickly checked, Mizzi thought then bet 27,000. Deeb quickly came in for a raise and quietly said, "Sixty..." making it 60,000 to play and that was enough to force a fold from Mizzi.
Hand #124 Freddy Deeb limped on the button, then called the subsequent raise to 22k from Sorel Mizzi. When Mizzi bet out 26,500 on the , Deeb raised to 53,000 and took that down.
The final hand before the hour's break saw Mizzi raise to 15k on the button and Deeb make the call, also check-calling the 16,500 bet on the flop. The brought a check-check. The river came and Deeb checked a third time. Mizzi bet 42k and was quickly called.
"Straight," said Deeb.
"Same one," said Mizzi, as they both showed Aces (out of view) and chopped the pot.
Hand #114: Freddy Deeb opened for 18,000 and won Sorel Mizzi's big blind.
Hand #115: Mizzi made it his usual 15,000 and Deeb folded.
Hand #116: Deeb raised to his usual 18,000 and Mizzi folded.
Hand #117: 15,000 once more from Mizzi, but this time Deeb made the call which already made the hand infinitely more interesting than the last few. The flop was and Deeb checked and Mizzi bet 16,500. Deeb wasn't going anywhere though and made the call to see a turn, Deeb checked but Mizzi had no such intentions.
The Canadian bet 37,500 and this time it was too much for Deeb, who mucked his hand after some thought. It feels as though Deeb does not want to be pushed around too much, but at the same time does not want to make any mistakes. Both players are taking every pot very seriously as the banter has virtually disappeared.
Hand #118: And after that brief period of action, it's back to "Raise and take it", Deeb's 18,000 button raise winning this hand.
Hand #119: Another change, Mizzi folded his button for the first time in a while.
Hand #120: 18,000 again from Deeb but this time Mizzi made the call though they both checked the flop. Mizzi also checked the turn and gave up when Deeb bet 22,000.
Two button raises and a big blind threebet (to 52k) were how Sorel Mizzi took these three pots. Deeb's took longer to win, and involved more than preflop action, one hand being limp-checked all the way to the river on a board, at which point Mizzi folded to his 15k bet. The second hand he won in this period saw him making it 45k from the big blind over Mizzi's 15k button raise, which was enough to take the pot.
Although they've definitely been playing a lot more aggressively than the others in the late-stage final table, there doesn't look much chance of them finishing by the proposed dinner break, as Freddy Deeb keeps suggesting with gusto.
Hand #101: Sorel Mizzi raised preflop to 15,000 and Freddy Deeb called. The flop came and Deeb check-called a bet from Mizzi. The - a blank, came on the turn and Deeb checked once more. Mizzi now fired out a bet of 38,500 and again Deeb made the call after sme serious deliberation.
The did not look like it had helped either player and Deeb now checkd a third time, Mizzi thought for a moment before checking behind and Deeb said, "Jack," showing for the pot.
Hand #102: Deeb limped in and Mizzi checked this time. The flop came and it was checked to Deeb who bet 8,000. Mizzi called and they saw a turn which was checked, as was the river. Mizzi said, "Four," and Deeb said, "A four is good."
Mizzi took the pot with .
Hand #103: Mizzi raised to 15,000 and won the blinds and antes.
Hand #104: Mizzi got a walk in the big blind.
Hand #105: Mizzi raised to 15,000 and got the blinds yet again.
Hand #106: Deeb raised to 18,000 and Mizzi folded. "I was wondering when you were going to fold one!" said Deeb.
A very large pot played out right off the bat here at the WPT Grand Prix de Paris High Roller Final: Heads Up Stage (to give it its full title). Freddy Deeb raised on the button to 18k, called by Sorel Mizzi in the big blind.
Flop: Mizzi bet out 24k, and was quickly raised to 75k. He thought for a while before making the call.
Turn: Now Mizzi checked it to Deeb, who also checked.
River: Mizzi reached for chips, selected 80k and slowly put it in the middle. Deeb didn't look delighted, but wasn't folding quickly.
"All I can beat is a bluff," he said, twice. Then he called.
Mizzi revealed which wasn't in the bluff category - thus he took down that hefty pot and even more of a chip lead - 890k to 355k.
Hand #95: Sorel Mizzi raised to 14,000 and picked up the blinds.
Hand #96: Freddy Deeb raised to 18,000 from the button and Mizzi called. The flop was a motown special coming . Mizzi checked and then folded to Deeb's 25,000 continuation bet.
Hand #97: Mizzi raised to 15,000 and picked up the blinds.
Hand #98: Freddy Deeb raised to 18,000 and Sorel Mizzi made it 53,000 to go. Deeb quickly folded
