Giaroni Gets Gutsy

After seeing Gianni Giaroni take off during brief periods of large-scale preflop raising which generally won him some decent chips, he's been quiet up until now. But in hand eight, preflop, he came over the top of a Sorel Mizzi 4,500 raise to the tune of 64,500, which quickly won him his first pot of the final.

Bruno Fitoussi Eliminated in 8th Place

Hand #6: Suddenly after a series of starting small hands, Bruno Fitoussi gets it all in preflop, called instantly by the button Roger Hairabedian. "Ace-king, your favourite hand," remarks Fitoussi, as he inspects his race with {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades} vs. Hairabedian's {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}.

The board brought some flush-draw excitement on the turn: {2-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}.. but the {3-Clubs} river ended the dapper Aviation Club stalwart's run in this Hi Roller event.

First Five Hands

The first hand saw it fold round to Hichem Ben Halima, who completed the small blind, checked by Sorel Mizzi. Both players checked a {9-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} flop, but on the raggy turn Ben Halima bet out 4,200 only to be raised to 11k by Mizzi, and pass.

Then Bruno Fitoussi picked up the blinds and antes the next hand, but quickly gave them back to Antony Lellouche, calling his preflop raise of 4,700 but check-folding the {6-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {5-Spades} {7-Diamonds} turn (the flop saw no betting). "Come on, give me a free card," he complained, as he passed.

The next flop seen again saw Sorel Mizzi enjoying position on Ben Halima, calling his preflop raise to 4,800 and then picking the pot up with a bet on the {7-Clubs} {7-Spades} {J-} flop.

And We're Off

Having posed for a group photo which tooklonger than expected ("Everybody look at me!" cries the photographer. "There are too many pretty girls in here to look at you," replies Freddy Deeb) they are finally up and running. Chips are being riffled and without any doubt will soon be hitting the felt, probably not at the frantic pace which with they did so yesterday, but certainly this final table will be aggressive, with just four places paid, and the top one being over a quarter of a million Euro.
