WSOP Day 2: Jodie Sanders Leads Casino Employees Event; Shootout & Omaha Hi/Lo on Tap
With two events getting underway on Day 1, including the new $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Super Turbo Bounty, a bracelet has already been awarded in the one-day event and a second bracelet is to be won on Thursday in the $565 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em.
In the Super Turbo Bounty, New York��s Elio Fox took home his first bracelet and $393,693 in cash in an event that featured 243 entries and a prize pool of $2.8 million.
"There was such a big field," Fox said the win, ��And I think there was a good mixture of pros and recreational players. I think doing turbos is great because it��s good for non-professional players who can finish an event quickly.
��Bounty turbo formats appear a lot online, so I��ve definitely played it a lot, but I think it��s a great addition to the WSOP schedule."
Event #1: $565 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em
After the first day of action, Jodie Sanders (lead image) leads the field with 509,000 chips. When registration closed, there were 566 entries for a prize pool of $283,000 and a first-place payout of $61,909. Sanders is a table games dealer at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Southern California and said this is the one tournament that he tries to play every year.
Several notables hit the rail during the day��s action including Simkha Blank, Molly Mossey, Joshua Clanton, Chad Holloway, Kevin Mathers, Mike Mejarus, Jesse Capps, and 2017 champion Bryan Hollis. Holloway hit the rail after flopping trips while his opponent flopped a full house.
There will be 13 players returning for Thursday��s action including Jason Pepper (168,000), Skyler Yeaton (317,000), Jodan Hufty (399,000), and Won Kim (319,000). A couple notable cashes included WSOP media coordinator Isaac Hanson (38th for $1,227) and WSOP executive director Ty Stewart (52nd for $1,085),

Event #3: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout
After a $10,000 event on Day 1, the second day of action brings a couple of lower buy-in options.
This ��shootout�� format has proven popular with many players as it is a bit different than the typical tournament and harkens back to the game��s Old West days. In a shootout, players must win their own tables and then advance to another table and win that one as well. That format continues until there is one winner.
Last year��s event attracted 369 players with Upeshka De Silva, of Katy, Texas, taking home his second bracelet and $229,923 in cash. There should be plenty of big names out in force and ready for a shootout. The action gets underway at 11 a.m. and PokerNews will have all the updates via the PokerNews WSOP Live Reporting hub.
Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better
The first non-Hold��em game gets underway on Thursday with this lower-price tier Omaha variety.
The event should bring out a nice number of players. In 2017, 905 players jumped in the split-pot action and Benjamin Zamani earned his second bracelet and $238,620. He��ll be looking to keep the mojo going after winning a WSOP-Circuit ring in March at the Planet Hollywood Main Event for $192,152.
