WSOP Day 22: Phil Hellmuth Advances in $1,500 NLHE Shootout

After three weeks the 2018 World Series of Poker marches onward. Today Event #39: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout reaches Day 2 with Phil Hellmuth one of those returning and hoping to make the final table. Meanwhile in Event #37: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em, Aaron Massey returns with only 20 players remaining.

In other action today, Event #36: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em returns for a fourth day with Robert Beach and Farhintaj Bonyadi battling heads-up for the title. Event #38: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship resumes with Yaniv Birman the chip leader to start Day 3. And several big names also advanced in Event #40: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet including Mike Matusow and Eli Elezra.

Event #34: $1,000 DOUBLE STACK No-Limit Hold'em

After three days of double stacking, only 20 remain to return on Wednesday in this gigantic 5,700-player field event. That field created a prize pool of $5,130,000 and a huge first-place payout of $644,224.

Keith Ferrera returns as the top stack of 7,550,000, and he'll be looking for his first WSOP tournament win.

Following Ferrera in the counts currently are Tomas Teran Paredes (5,050,000) and Robert Peacock (4,500,000).

Others remaining include Matt Stout (3,920,000), six-time World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner Joshua Turner (3,905,000), Pfizer Jordan (2,450,000), Pablo Fernandez (1,760,000), Ramin Hajiyev (1,420,000) and bracelet winner Andrey Zaichenko (1,205,000).

Event #36: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em

An extra fourth day was added in this event as Robert Beach and Farhintaj Bonyadi return to battle heads-up. Beach comes back to a commanding chip lead with 9,010,000 versus Bonyadi's 1,975,000 �� that despite Beach starting the day with just nine big blinds. Each player hopes to claim the $311,451 and a bracelet.

A total of 2,191 entered this event for a $1,971,900 prize pool. The final two players return to the tables at 11 a.m., and PokerNews will be there for the heads-up battle. Click here for the live updates.

Event #37: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em

Just 20 players remain from the 236 who began yesterday's Day 2 in Event #37. When players return today, Aaron Massey will lead the field with 1,198,000, followed by 2013 WSOP Main Event runner-up Jay Farber (1,093,000), Ian Steinman (1,080,000), Michael Finstein (938,000), and Ryan Goindoo (654,000).

Others still in the field include Stephen Song (623,000), JC Tran (480,000), Eric Baldwin (469,000), Jason Wheeler (430,000), and Ryan Laplante (176,000).

The tournament attracted 1,330 entries for a prize pool of $1,795,500 and a top prize of $319,580. The tournament restarts at 12 noon and should reach a winner on Wednesday.

Event #38: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship

With only eight players remaining from the 83-entry $10K Stud field, Yaniv Birman is chip leader after bagging 958,000 last night.

Following him is multiple-bracelet winner Jesse Martin (916,000), with Ben Yu (559,000), Matt Grapenthien (507,000), Lee Salem (473,000), Joseph Cappello (360,000), James Obst (216,000), and Lars Gronning (168,000) also still in the hunt.

The Seven Stud action resumes on Wednesday for the third day at 2 p.m. and PokerNews will be there to report how the majority of the $780,200 prize pool gets divided and tell who claims the bracelet and $236,238 top prize. Event #39: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout

After the first day in the shootout only 100 players remain out of a field that drew 908 to create a $1,225,800 prize pool. Each of those advancing will be hoping to be the last person standing to win the bracelet and $236,498 first prize.

Some of those left include Phil Hellmuth, 2017 WSOP Main Event Champion Scott Blumstein, 2017 shootout runner-up Thomas Boivin, Steven Wolansky, Rep Porter, 888Poker Ambassador and 2014 Main Event Champion Martin Jacobson, Matthew Waxman, Georgios Sotiropoulos, Arkadiy Tsinis, Justin Liberto, and William Kakon.

The Poker Brat was happy to be moving on with his fourth cash of the WSOP.

Event #40: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet

Mixed games fans were out in force for this one with Naoya Kihara ending the day leading the pack with 119,700 chips and hopes for his second bracelet. Kihara won a bracelet in 2012 in a $5,000 buy-in PLO event.

The event attracted a field of 205 and just 51 players remain for Day 2. When play starts back today, Kihara will be followed by Dario Sammartino (117,000), Scott Bohlman (114,000), John Hennigan (111,850), and Daniel Harmetz (100,000).

Others remaining include Andrew Kelsall (66,200) as well as Mike Matusow (72,300), Eli Elezra (70,000), David "ODB" Baker (41,075), Barry Greenstein (27,375), and Brian Rast (23,150).

Players were allowed one re-entry and played a rotation including Big O, No-Limit Hold'em, No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw, Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, No-Limit 5-Card Draw High, Pot-Limit Omaha, and Pot-Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw, with the game changing every six hands.

Event #41: $1,500 Limit Hold'em

Another lower buy-in hold'em event should pack in plenty of rounders looking for a nice score. The three-day event gives players 7,500 starting chips with levels lasting 60 minutes.

Last year's champion was Shane Buchwald, who walked away with a bracelet and $177,985, his first bracelet and first WSOP cash.

The event starts at 11 a.m. and PokerNews will follow all the flops, turns, and rivers.

Event #42: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed High Roller

Break out the big bankroll for this big buy-in PLO event. Players will start 125,000 chips and will be allowed one re-entry. Late registration is allowed through the second level on Day 2 and levels are 60 minutes.

Last year's winner was James Calderaro who took home his first bracelet and a massive payday of $1,289,074.

The cards go in the air at 3 p.m. and PokerNews will be there reporting on all the PLO fun.
